I have a friend who is a sip, and he is convinced that the Big 12 is a better football conference than the SEC. Now obviously, his opinion is straight up wrong. But how does one attempt to reestablish logic in the mind of a Big 12 Kool-Aid-drinking, t.u-loving, ignorant sip?

Why do you feel you need to? What is to be gained? It's like arguing if dems or reps are better; you will never change their minds.

Your first problem is having such an ignorant friend. Secondly, the burden of showing any national relevance is on him (and the Big 12, cesspool driven dumpster fire conference), not you. There are no objectively derived metrics that support his ignorant position. The facts relative to television viewership, attendance, conference revenue, inter-conference records, national championships, All American players, Heisman trophies, national reputation and national sports media reporting are clear --- the SEC is the best conference. And, the same metrics indicate that the "dumpster fire" continues to be the worst power 5 conference.

Oh well if national sports media is reporting it then it must be true. The bowl results don't support the SEC being the best this season. That said, it's difficult to compare the 2 conferences because the SEC has more teams. Also because SEC has unbalanced scheduling. That's a pretty big difference. Even the old Big 12 with Nebraska, CU, A&M and Mizzou in the league still had everyone playing everyone everywhere in a player's career. Not the case in SEC. I'm not saying it's better or worse just different.

I do feel that SEC has been the best at the top in recent seasons. It's fluid though. The BIg 12 was the best before that in late 90s early 2000s. Just depends how long you've been watching.

Anyhow, I don't think anyone who follows the sport thinks the SEC was best conference THIS season.

Big 12 had a bad year overall but fared better than SEC in bowl games. SEC is good but not many good QBs in league last season. Defense in SEC was overrated b/c the offenses (save Alabama) aren't as challenging to defend. Most teams no identity on offense.

Road trip! Ask you sip friend how many Big 12 road trips he has been on? Then ask if he would like to go Nashville or Waco? Norman or Athens? CS or Ames? Auburn or Stillwater?

Of course remind your sip friend to get used to the Big 12, they are not leaving anytime soon, thanks for the GOR and the golden handcuffs of the LHN.
