In our drive up to Tennessee this Summer, we are going to stop through multiple SEC towns and check out the football stadiums. We are stopping in Oxford, Starkville, Tuscaloosa, and Knoxville. Where are some can't miss places in these 4 towns that we should stop to eat at?

Tuscaloosa: Dreamland Barbecue. There are/were two locations in town, but go to the original just south of I-20 to get the real feel. No menu, just ribs, sausage, and sliced white bread. This is good barbecue to folks who have never had Texas barbecue.

Starkville: Most network sports guys rave over Little Dooey's barbecue, but again - it ain't Texas barbecue, just a hole-in-the-wall with decent food and good prices. If you want something nicer, try Harvey's (the prime rib sandwich at lunch is damn good). For a really good burger and a cold draft beer in a fishbowl goblet, go to Oby's.

Oxford: Just walk around the Square and see what suits your fancy, as there is a broad range of decent options.

Never been to Knoxville, so I can't help you there.

Near Starkville, find the Old Waverly mansion. Well preserved antibellum mansion. The owner, lovely older southern lady who still lives there, will give you a tour. Cash only.

This past May we drove through the south. Knocked two SEC schools off my need to see bucket list, Bama and Vandy. Recommend you stop for lunch at Patty's restaurant at exit 108 on I-40 between Nashville and Memphis.

Ajax Diner on the Square in Oxford is good. Look for the Thanks Archie sign and the statue of Faulkner. Also love the posting of the score of the annual in town rivalry high school game in front of one of the shops on the square.
