Mack might leave Texas, but Saban stays at Bama.

Yesterday, the news about Brown and his cronies at Texas being forced out was causing consternation at Alabama. It now appears that while Brown may or may not be leaving (I have no idea what is going to happen with him and don't really care anymore -- I think that power struggle is enough to make any coach think twice about taking the Texas job and the bad publicity just might save Mack for one more year), the Saban news seems to have been almost all self-inflicted worry caused by old friends talking to old friends about a couple of overheard comments and a text message.

Of course, until the whole mess in Austin is over, there will still be doubt, but the attitude in Tuscaloosa is much more positive than it was a day or so ago. Take that for what it's worth. Something might happen to make the mood shift again, but I don't think so.

Anything that discombobulates both Tuscaloosa and Austin is nothing but good news for Aggies.

Please continue.

Jeb, word on the tu site is that Saban has a contract on his desk and has until today to sign then they are moving on. Of course, he has been out recruiting, so not sure how true their statement is.

Mack will probably leave t.u.

Saban will most likely stay at bama.

I just can't see Saban putting up with the LHN stuff. That isn't his personality and I don't see him dealing with the money brokers at Texas. Saban always seems like he is there to coach and to hell with the power brokers. Can you see Saban calling Jamail or McCombs everyday?

Yep, that's the stuff that Paul Finebaum has been saying. The man knows how to get ratings and he does have connections at Alabama. His new gig with ESPN has raised his stature and sphere of influence. Whether he's any more credible or not is left to one's opinion of ESPN. I will say that I've never heard Finebaum lie, though he will let nutty folks ramble on and on (often embarrassingly so).

For a $1mm more, I'm guessing Saban would meet Jamail for brunch every morning.

But I still don't think he's leaving. Gil Brandt tweeting Saban working on. $7mm/year extension.

It's been opined on a couple of Alabama message boards that Coach Saban is waiting until the big college contracts and extensions have been signed and then his agent (Jimmy Sexton, of course) will get an extension from Alabama to make sure he's the highest paid of them all.

Right now, Coach Saban's Alabama contract has no buy-out (never has since he came to Tuscaloosa) and runs through 2020 or so. I think he has something specific he wants to accomplish before he retires. Personally, I hope he wants to tie or surpass Coach Bryant's record of six national titles (according to those of us at Alabama, anyway) and then maybe think of retiring. Hang around for five more years or so. One can hope.

I've heard of a Texas contract being offered, but the one on Saban's desk was from Alabama (at least, that's what I thought). You've probably seen the Gil Brandt tweet (retweeted by Finebaum) that a contract proposal was on Saban's desk gathering dust in an empty office while our coach recruits and his agent negotiates his extension with Alabama. I think it's been pretty much accepted that the whorns who want Mack out have decided that they better move on to someone else.

Though it might be too late, FSU better be glad that their coach has a BCS title game coming up. Fisher has issues with some Seminole power players (including many in the local media) relating back to his first year in Tallahasee. He ruffled the feathers of some big birds. He might have ended up in Austin -- I suppose he still could, though that seems really unlikely for a number of reasons.

edited twice in an attempt to clean up my mistakes and make sense of what I'm writing (not great at multitasking, it seems). Sorry about that.

Saban isn't leaving bama when he is so close to making history. Let the dumb****s spread outrageous rumors with unbelievable numbers in the contract. They have no life.

I just can't see Saban leaving a conference he more or less has dominated for a conference where every team plays the no huddle, hurry up, spread offense that he has made very clear he wants gone from college football. No way.

Maybe banning the HUNH from the B12 is part of the contract.

Texas is doing what my old high school coach, Oz Amburg, used to call "assing around". That is, moving aimlessly about while getting nothing accomplished. They might not realize it yet, but they will soon enough. It is a dangerous activity to be involved in, which they will also realize soon enough. It's starting to look like the Horns are standing next to an unexploded s---bomb.

If Saban does leave, what credibility he has is gone and that will be used against him. He pulled this stunt in Miami. He's said he's committed to Bama, and his wife told the WSJ they aren't going anywhere. While I'm not wild about negative recruiting, the first thing I, as a coach up against Saban for a recuit, would do is hand each kid the newspaper articles with these quotes in them. Then, I'd say something like, "he promised you'd play next year, right?"

Yeah, nick Saban has never recovered from that Miami ordeal to recruit to Bama.

I personally think tu will win with Saban, but art Briles/Gundy & KK will be a constant thorn in his side. He struggles the most against spread offenses, and the big 12 has a lot of pretty good ones. Unless he adjusts his own offensive philosophy, he might not be built to win shoot outs in the big 12 every week. Also, one loss in that league and you're toast. See Baylor and OSU this year.

Is there an longer any honor among thieves? If i understand contracts and all, Nick Saban has one with Alabama that he can abrogate at his whim, with no penalty. Nevertheless HE IS UNDER CONTRACT.

So Is Mark Brown.

Isn't there something to contexts that says coaches can't even discuss a new job without the permission of their university? I think there is -- so the idea that Nick has a tu contract on his desk is bull feathers.

Austin/Texas is way the hell more interesting than anywhere in Alabama to Mrs. Saban.

Judging by how quickly the cards fell with regards to other coaching positions It seems likely to me the new Texas coach has already been hired. Now, who it is we may not know for a while.

If Saban decides to leave Alabama, money will not be the issue. Restlessness, a need to re-prove himself or his wife wanting to move somewhere else, all seem to be credible reasons he could move on.
