Columbus, GA = Not the most exciting place to live...Been through there quite a few times.

If this is accurate, the only justification that I can discern is that nearby Fort Benning is one of the U.S. Army's premier training posts and home of the U.S. Army Infantry and Airborne School.

It has been years since I've been there, but Fort Benning is probably similar in size to Fort Hood here in Texas. Other that than the Army presence, I can think of no other reason for a Texas A&M branch there, and I would even question that.

Phenix City has little to offer, other than a post town with the usual array of eateries, liquor stores, loan sharks and pawn shops.

UPDATE: Phenix City server campus on hold due to power supply concerns. City leaders have contacted Texas A&M to inform them that there are already "four or five computers in Phenix City" and the micro-server A&M is planning to install would consume too much power.

Similar obstacles were encountered by Shoney's and Waffle House when they recently attempted to upgrade to electric cash registers.

The server planned for Prien, Louisiana is also on hold pending an equipment update from analogue to digital. As the analogue equipment was installed less that 17 months ago, it is unlikely that the Parish will invest in an infrastructure upgrade anytime soon.
