If you can only go to one SEC away game, which would you choose and why?

went to Bama and Auburn last year; great campuses, great fans, friendly fans, great game day atmospheres, great traditions, looks and feels a lot like TAMU

This year a lot of people going to Arkansas just because the Ags won't travel back there for quite some time.

I had a great time last year in Oxford tailgating in the Grove. Definitely an away game that is a must to go to and experience.

Would love to go to Tuscaloosa or the Swamp but never been. Would also like to see Tennessee.

I've gone to one game at LSU and will not go back. Georgia was a good time, Athens is a pretty place.

We went to Mississippi State last year ... great fans, good and scenery.

I said that to myself earlier this year. Now, we're going to back there in November. Glutton for punishment, I suppose ...

Oh c'mon! LSU is fun. I'm being serious. We're just rowdy and know how to have a good time. Come back, loosen up and I bet you'll have a ball.

I have to go to College Station one day. Tops on my list. After that, I would say Starkville and then Auburn.

I have been to a bunch of away games in the SEC, here are my rankings of the away game experiences:
1. Florida - Fans are incredibly rude and tried to fight us, which was the downside. Stadium was really cool and loud. Bar scene is pretty awesome.
2. Bama - Really nice campus. Tailgating is a lot of fun. Great atmosphere.
3. Auburn - Really nice people and campus. Hard to find a place close to stay, but campus is easy to navigate. Fun environment.
4. Ole Miss - Small stadium, but nice campus. I have been to Oxford a bunch, and always enjoy it. Grove is overrated though.
5. Tennessee - I didn't get to tailgate on a boat, so maybe that would have influenced my rankings. Stadium is kind of ugly. Knoxville is really nice though.
6. Texas A&M - Ugly campus. People were kind of odd. Bar scene is really nice and the best thing about it. I wasn't impressed with the stadium experience.

I really want to go to Athens. I can't this year because I have a prior commitment next weekend. I don't care to go to Arkansas or Mississippi St.

I have been to most SEC venues and LSU is my favorite stadium and probably overall experience, though I don't love Baton Rouge (on gamedays at least).

For tailgate/stadium, I like UF, UT, USC, Bama, Auburn. Also Jacksonville is cool for Florida/Georgia.

For overall town + nightlife I really like Athens and Oxford and even Starkville for its charm. I went to a couple of fun games there during the Jackie era.

Haven't been to Arky and not sure I will get around to it.

Those rankings are all as a neutral observer. As a visiting fan, I think Auburn and USC would be at the top of my list.

carter, you went to starkville and enjoyed it? i've heard some pretty terrible things about starkvegas.

just seems that it's so tough to get a hotel room in any of those towns...exponentially moreso than CS.

Best - 'Bama. Nice people, like the stadium, and a decent bar district.

Worst - LSU. Fans were slightly above trash, like atmosphere in the stadium though, and the entire city could be cleaner.

The funny thing is corndog that the Texas A&M game day experience always out ranks the game day experience at LSU. Weird huh?

Sounds like a bit of jealousy. You know A&M is going to surpass LSU in football and of course you have "I didn't pay players at Okie State" Les Miles. Congratulations!

We already own you in the directors cup every year demonstrating that we have a much better athletic department. Our stadium is going to be much nicer, larger, and louder than your stadium. We are rated higher in academics. We have a much larger endowment. Nothing you can do about that. I understand the resentment.

Every SEC football recruit that we get just helps your slip to mediocrity inevitable. Come back and play when you don't has something so ******y to post on Texags.com about Texas A&M.

Drink juice, I went a couple times with family and I was pretty young. Just drove in for the game and then back to an aunt's house. Both were Egg Bowls. My family is more aligned w Ole Miss but I didn't go there until many years later. I was disappointed in Vaught Hemingway and by that time was an Aggie and remember Starkville being kind of like College Station and thought the Ole Miss fans were kind of arrogamt like sips. So I guess that is why I liked MSU.

I've been to Starkville a few times. Not a "bad" experience, but it's not great either. The people are great, and the campus is really nice. But Starkville has nothing to do at all, and the stadium is well behind typical SEC venues. Their incredibly large videoboard is hilariously disproportionate to their stadium size. Like trying to fit a 60" plasma screen in a storage closet.

I've been to Neyland Stadium twice. Unbelievable experience. Knoxville has an area called The Strip with a bunch of bars. Kinda like their Northgate. The stadium is amazing. It just "feels" massive because it shoots straight up. Fans are really loud when the Vols are doing well. They have some awesome fans. Hearing 100,000+ sing Rocky Top is up there with our War Hymn. Lastly, the tailgating and stadium setting are unmatched. It's an absolutely gorgeous scene. I'd recommend getting there early on Friday so you can spend a day hanging out in the Smokies (approx. 45 mins away). Pretty hard to beat the colors of the Smokies in the fall.

According to you, but the majority of people rank LSU higher.

I don't see A&M surpassing LSU. Not going to happen the way LSU recruits. Manziel will be gone after this year, and Sumlin will leave for the NFL soon.

Maybe, I just didn't enjoy A&M, and enjoyed other great SEC campuses and venues better? Is that so unbelievable?

I don't care about the directors cup. I care about the 3 major sports, and LSU is 5-1 against A&M since A&M joined the SEC in the 3 major sports.

Our stadium is currently nicer, louder, and larger than yours. You are wrong on all 3 fronts.

Congrats on the academics. That is about as relevant on a sports message board to argue as better looking females.

What about the recruits we are getting from Texas? If you have watched LSU play, you know that slipping into mediocrity isn't going to happen in the foreseeable future.

Look, I didn't enjoy College Station and Kyle Field as much as I did other great SEC Venues. It isn't for everybody. I know a bunch of people that feel the same way. I understand that Death Valley and Baton Rouge aren't the top of everyone's list.

It's not a big deal. I am sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Just don't get so defensive to others when you come on OUR board and say that our campus is ugly, our stadium is ugly, and our people are odd. I know several cool LSU fans, but it's like you're trying to annoy the majority of people on this board. Knock off the passive-aggressive attitude, and posters here would be a lot friendlier to you.

Not defensive, the poster made some terrible points, that I decided to respond to.

I ranked the SEC stadiums/campuses/gameday experiences that I have been to. Somebody has to be last. Starkville may take the last spot after this weekend, so Aggies can sleep easy.

I'll ask this: why come on an A&M board and rank A&M as the worst gameday experience? What exactly are you expecting to get out of that? Fans of A&M will pick fights with you (which might be what you're going for, I don't know.)

It's all opinion-based, so I'm not offended. I just honesty wonder why there are posters from rival teams on other boards who go to badmouth other programs. When you have a fanbase the size of LSU's, I figured you would have better places to bash our proud university than our own board.

I didn't start the thread. I thought it was an interesting topic. I decided to honestly rank my SEC away game experiences as the thread title stated. A&M is honestly in last place at this time for me.

I wasn't expecting anything. I am not going to lie and compromise my values just to make others on this board happy.

south carolina because i already know the town and win no matter what. haven't been to all yet but I can say...

lsu is the worst. you have to drive through ghettos to get to campus (like waco). it is unbelievably humid and fans get piss drunk starting thursday so that by game time they have stocks of piss balloons to throw on visitors. they are inhospitable during and after games. their stadium usually isn't that loud because their offense takes off during the first half of games.

pluses? their campus looks nice. and you never know when les will do something crazy.

Complete troll. There is a small ghetto between downtown and campus, but that is the only side of campus that has one.

P*** balloons thing is such a joke.

The NCAA just ranked LSU the loudest stadiums. Numerous publications have done so as well.

LSU is a piece of **** school. They are good at football right now, but those ******* will want to quit playing us like they did when we went 5-0 against them in the 90's and they bailed on the last 2 games of the series. Cowards are always brash until they find someone bigger than them

We went to Ole Miss, Bama, & Auburn.

Ole Miss was the coolest environment
Bama had the most passionate fans & dripped with history
Auburn was in the middle of nowhere & the high point [other than the trouncing] was seeing Toomers Corner. So sad that someone would ruin such a dynamic part of SEC history & a school's identity. It'd be like a tu fan poisoning the Century Tree because JFF made them look like fools.

We are going to Ole Miss & LSU this year. I haven't heard one good thing about LSU or their fans, so I'm not expecting much from that trip other than hoping our group survives.

LSU is Tceh with a drunk/Frenchy accent. Been there 4 times, never going back.

Away game trips I want to make:

1. Vandy - Have a bud in the music biz I want to see while there.
2. Tennessee - Stadium/river looks interesting, lots of history/ambiance.
3. Ole Miss - Going there this year, so that item gets checked off the bucket list.
4. Kentucky - Pretty area, good chance to be happy after the game is over.

I have updated my rankings after my trip to Mississippi St.

1. Florida
2. Bama
3. Auburn
4. Ole Miss
5. Tennessee
6. Texas A&M
7. Mississippi St. - Tailgating was pretty weak. The fans were about as country as I expected. Stadium got a lot louder than I expected with the cowbells. It was louder than a couple of schools higher up on this list, but the stuff outside of the game and the smaller stadium makes it last.
