Ok..

Alex Collins has signed his LOI, with his dad signing as the parent.

It has been faxed to the University of Arkansas.

But..

his mom has retained legal counsel "to protect the family's interests".

This attorney is from a firm started by no less than Johnnie Cochran..

-- sigh --

Can't this woman just cut it the bleepity-blank loose?

Btw...

anyone want to bet that his mom will claim the LOI is invalid, as the dad allegedly was stripped of parental rights years ago due to failure to pay child support..?

There's at least one BSC mom signing day story every year. Arkansas just drew the black bean this year. At least there's a real geographic issue with South Florida as compared to Arkansas. I seem to recall this happening 5 or 6 years ago in Texas and, IIRC, it involved two Texas schools.

And where does his mommy want him to go? If he was stripped of his parental rights, it sounds like she might be right to intervene, although at the end of the day it should be the athlete's choice, not the parents'.

Is an LOI one of those documents where you are not considered an adult until you are 21?

A little bit more info..

seems Collin's mom is pissed that instead of going to Miami (her choice of school).. that Alex went to Arkansas ..

Coach Bielema is a long time friend of Collin's high school coach.. as in they met way back in 2000/2001 when Bielema was at Iowa and recruiting a defensive lineman that the coach had.

This ws at a totally different school in the Miami area.

All the talk from the attorney's about "outside influences" is a direct shot at Collins high school coach.

Mama feels Collins should take her viewpoint more than any stuff the coach tells her.

And I hope like hell the signing of the LOI, faxing it, and everything was clean. The Cochran law firm is gonna attack it with a fine tooth comb. If there was even a stick of bubble gum provided to Collins', his dad, or anybody by Arkansas or Arkansas boosters.. they will declare it an NCAA violation..

The woman is spiteful enough, from the info I have, to burn her son so he cannot attend the University of Arkansas. She will nearly allow him to go anyplace else but to Fayetteville.

She is that mad at the high school coach.

One last thing. There is also some "urban city bias" and perception about little old Arkansas. All the thugs and gangstas cannot believe Collins wants to go to Hickville USA.
Thats a comment I read on one of the miami coast newspaper boards.

I hope like hell I am wrong, but don't be surprised to see lawsuits filed tomorrow to get an injunction barring Collins from attending Fayetteville.

The interesting thing is he didn't even need the LoI. He could just enroll in the fall.

I'm betting no injunction is filed.

My thoughts exactly! After seeing his announcement live on Fox Sports this is apparently a very mature 18 year old! Alex comes off as a young man that anyone ( of our SEC brothers that is ) would hope he has a great career! Collins stated after signing that no one has hired a lawyer. We will see.

Under 21 they must have a parent or guardian sign. His high school coach is the guardian, neither of his parents have parental rights which is a sad thing! He just wanted his Mom's blessing, which sounds about right for this kid!

more info..

Collins sleeps in the house/apartment where his mom sleeps.. but that is it.

It is in a bad area of town... think 5th ward or so in Houston only a bit worse..

Collins literally goes to the coach's house after school, hangs out, more often than not eats supper wioth the coach, does homework there.. then goes home to sleep.

He has not stayed permanently at the coach's house.

On a couple or 3 occasions, he bunked there for a weekend or such like playoff games coming home late.. and when the home life was not really good.

I really hate to say this, but more and more looks like his mom had $$ in her eyes.

Lastly, as I noted earlier, the Cochran lawyers are eyeballing Arkansas recruitment of Collins with a fine tooth comb.

You can bet your ass if even a breakfast donut was bought for the kid by Arkansas, they will claim NCAA infractions and insist the LOI be invalidated.

Probably not the case with Collins. Arkansas wasn't in on Collins till 2 months ago. With his official visit just last week and no unofficial visits. However I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few free doughnuts at every school!

I hope everything was above board in this situation. I don't want to see that woman get anything. Kid made his choice....now either support him or get out of his life for good.

gonna find out a lot about arky here....not only whether they did anything wrong, but how courageous they would be by standing by the commit when the "easy" thing to do is simply invalidate the LOI themselves and ask him to get things straight on his own so that they avoid scrutiny from this law firm.

Ok.. latest I have is really no info to report.

Chatter on couple of Miami boards seems to say that Mom's attorneys' told Mom nothing to be done.

Seems like the tempest hath subsided...

It still sucks for the Hogs, though, because this type of thing could be a big, emotionally draining distraction for the kid. He may end up transferring out before it's all said and done.
