How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've seen some email rumblings today from LSU alum that TU is looking at Saban (Yes, LSU alum claiming to hear it from their sources - completely unverified). I've dismissed as impossible, could there be any truth to this?

Any upside in leaving Bama for TU that i'm not aware of?!?

If he goes anywhere it is to NFL. Nothing to gain leaving Bama for tu.

I wish UT were getting him, SFTL. He might be pure evil, but I would sell my soul in a heartbeat to have that goon instead of that ra-ra, no-name guy we're now stuck with.

Sips, you are very ungrateful!!! You want to get rid of a man that brought you an NC!! You want to get of a man that brings in top 5 recruiting classes!! You want to get rid of a man that won 10+ games a year. It is true that he has had some problems with OU but it seems that OU may have their own problems. Yes, 2010 was bad but he has steadily improved these last two seasons. Mack will be back!! Right now, he is writing and brainstorming for next years Big XII title and NC game!!!

Saban is not leaving.

Alabama pays him a ton of money.
His recruiting base and connections are there.
He is set to have a Bear Bryant legendary status in Alabama.

Only way he would go to Austin is if the Horns offered an obscene amount of money that would make an NFL owner blink.

Saban wouldnt go to the Cleveland Browns for more money.

Why would he go to Texas where he has to dedicate 10-20 hrs a week to LHN bull****. He's all about taking care of business, not committing time to that fluffy bull**** on the lhn.

W his incentives he made almost 6m this year. If Texas is willing to offer 10+ then he'd probably listen but that is a **** ton of money. Also, he's running the show at his place and his program is just the way he wants it. At Texas he'd have to put up with obnoxious boosters, dodds, the lhn, being in a weaker conf, etc. there might not be a sum of money that'd convince him to deal w all that **** when everything is great now.

I think Mack has a colossal buyout too

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, Bama would match $10 mil. That isn't even a tenth of the revenue Bama pulled in this past year (which was $124+ mil). Again, I'm not saying tu couldn't outbid Bama, but they would have to pay him more than $20 mil a year (which isn't happening), and that may not even do it.

Plus there ain't no way that Coach Saban would put up with having to devote his time to doing LHN plugs throughout the week. When he does the 30 min weekly coaches show, he does it directly after the game, in the stadium, before he goes home because he doesn't want to mess with it during the week.

Coach Saban will be at Bama until he decides to retire. He is 61 right now, but looks to be in great shape and doesn't look 61. I could see him coaching another 10 years since it is his life. I don't see him being the type of person who could retire and sit around the house doing nothing. But either way, he will retire from Bama.

You people don't seem to understand that EVERYBODY wants to be at Texas. Period. Darrel Royal would leave Heaven to come back and coach Texas.

Or he would if Heaven didn't have him coaching Texas already but with all of the unlimited scholarships that he built his reputation with.

A few points to ponder:

1. Saban couldn't wheel and deal in recruiting like he does in Tuscaloosa - oversigning, trap-dooring, grayshirts, etc.

2. Alabama is a football powerhouse, it is a lateral move, not a step up as if he was leaving Ole Miss or Ga Tech.

3. He makes $6.5 million compared to the current Texas coach's $5 million.

4. There is no head coaching vacancy in Austin.

Why would Saban even consider it, for a few million $ more? Alabama could easily match that ...

The interesting thing is, could the LHN afford to get Saban to the $10 million level. That is more than NFL coaches make, but with LHN in need of a future, the gamble could be worth it.

Just a thought.

Saban isn't going to UT. Saban hates doing interviews. Mack Brown does a coaches show EVERY DAY during football season.

Saban hates gladhanding alumni. Big donors have Mack's personal cell phone & talk to him often.

UT's positives won't outweigh those negatives plus the cush job he's got at Alabama now.

At most Saban will allow his agent to float his name (just as he does almost every year) to get yet another raise and extension from Bama. Saban just wants to be paid and he is getting paid.

Personally it wouldn't surprise me if Saban hung it up in a few years though. Nothing really left to accomplish.

Saban lives and breaths coaching 24/7. He isn't the type of person that could just hang it up tomorrow, retire to the lake and be content. He is the type of coach that will coach until he either can't keep up anymore, or keels over. Plus he still has Coach Bryant's 6 NCs (both total, and at one school) to shoot for. He is 61 right now, and I could see him coaching into his 70s easily.

I believe that Mack's buyout is actually very small.

Saban won't being going to Austin for the following reasons, in my opinion:

1. He's only 2 months younger than Mack.
2. He makes $6 million/yr now, how much would it take to get him to leave?
3. He just built a huge lake house not far from Tuscaloosa.
4. His daughter is going to school at Bama.
5. He isn't a fan of spread/fast offenses.
6. Bama will mortgage every mobile home in the state to pay to keep him. It would be a bidding war that would lead to a big public backlash against the school willing to pay that much.
7. Saban isn't media friendly. Workers in the Alabama athletic department aren't allowed to even speak to him during the football season. I can't imagine him jumping into the LHN coaching gig.
8. It's hard to leave a school when they have a statue of you outside the stadium.

If his daughter really goes to Bama, that puts the nail in the coffin of this rumor.
