Wow; they sure talked a lot of trash over here about how great they are, lost to us due to bad play calling; etc. turns; they were just waaaay overrated!

I always liked State, but when you look at the entire body of work this year, I think you have to conclude they got off to a fast start because of an easy schedule, and when they had to play better programs they proved to be overmatched....still by their standards not a bad year when you end up in the Gator Bowl....laying an egg against Northwestern, not so good...

Will not see a lot of puffed up chests from anyone, except us.

MSU fans are actually known for traveling quite well. I think that is one of the reasons the Gator Bowl invited us back (even when we arguably did not deserve it) - they knew we would sell our ticket allotment plus some. As far as the TAMU game goes, it might be affected by the fact that we play OSU at Reliant Stadium on Labor Day weekend. I don't know how many fans will want to make the trip to TX twice in one season. But, I believe the Houston alumni chapter is the biggest outside the state of MS, so there are plenty of local MSU fans.

As far as talking smack goes, all true maroon MSU fans know better. Anyone who has followed the team for any length of time knows that, just when we think we might have a great team, it all goes to crap. We've (unfortunately) learned to live with it. Besides, the SEC West is a totally different place than it was back in the late 90s/early 00s when we did have several big wins.

Posted this after the game when Mullen didn't give us any credit, and their fans were expecting a solid win out of their bunch....
quote:
They did not respect us. At all. They couldn't as it would be an admission that they are another rung down the totem pole. Therefore, anything we were able to do was a result of them playing poorly. It will be this way for them the next few years. They are the tech of the SEC. They hate us because we are better, and they cannot bring themselves to admit it.

and I posted this before our game with them....
quote:
We are winning this game by 24 points. We are going to gash them with the run, and Trey Williams is going to have 4 explosive plays in a breakout performance.

Of all the teams, Miss St has demostrated the most lack of respect to Texas A&M's entrance into this league. Not from a superiority of athlete point of view, but from a "most to lose" point of view. Ole Miss knew we were already better than them. Alabama and LSU knew they were better than us. Florida knew based on how Urban recruited. Arakansas thought they were but they were obviously distracted. Miss St wants to be one of the "haves", desperately. They are kind of like tech in that they feel they deserve it after having been a marginal program for their entire lifetimes. They believe they can be a destination program for head coaches. Reality is completely outside of their train of thought. They dis-respect A&M because they have to, if they don't they are admitting that the Aggies place is above them in the SEC West pecking order. It is a true cognitive dissonance type scenario. They don't respect our team because they can't, it hurts them too much.

They have expressed this in their scout team approach. They have a fast guy back there emulating Johnny, not even throwing the ball, just running around giving their front seven good preparation. But what about their secondary? Ha! No need, they are more than prepared for our weak sauce passing game with their all-world defensive backfield.

Eff them, we are kicking their ass.

Just them "commemorating" their win over us in the "Snow Bowl" by wearing all whites says it all. It was like they were taunting us with that win. I am glad we came out in all black and "ruined" their day and gave them notice that this is just the beginning.

You do realize that the team wore those jerseys to honor Jackie Sherrill and his last major win as the MSU head coach, right? The 2001-2003 seasons were a disaster, so the "Snow Bowl" win was both memorable for the snow (a blizzard, if you are from MS) and for the fact that it was pretty much the last positive thing that happened during Sherrill's tenure at MSU. That Independence Bowl may not be important to TAMU's football history, but it is to MSU (insert your sarcastic comments here; all MSU folks know that we dont have much of football history to celebrate, so we find it where we can).

Even folks from MS aren't stupid enough to think that replica jerseys from a bottom tier bowl game played 12 years ago are going to intimidate anyone.

And if you think that is all, I have some ocean front property for sale in Arizona just for you. Believe me it will be at an all time low price also.

Yes, I do believe that was the intention. Coach Sherrill and the members of the bowl team were present at the TAMU game in Nov. To my knowledge (and I could be incorrect), that is the first time we did any kind of tribute to Coach Sherrill since he left as head coach. Makes sense to me, considering he coached at TAMU, and the 2000 Snow Bowl was the first time he coached a team playing against TAMU. It's not like we were going to honor him for anything that happened after that game in 2000...

The unis were rather confusing; I thought Mississippi was the egg state, but the jerseys said they are the hail state...
