I was trying to explain this to the parents, and they just don't understand that it's a stereotype. Where did it come from?

It has to do with the fact their fans and people resemble carneys. And what is a popular way for carneys. Corn dogs.
They smell like corndogs.

It doesn't make sense. It's just dumb. It was originally a joke used about Nebraska fans. Auburn fans started using it on LSU fans and it stuck. Except LSU isn't the cornhuskers and La is known for growing rice and sugar cane, not corn
^ What he said. The Auburn guy had a better delivery. I think Louisianians smell more like Whiskey.
That's probably why it stuck.
From what I've read, it started when some Auburn fan said LSU fans smelled like corndogs.
Hope LSU fans like chicken nuggets.
