I sent an email complaining about more Whorn love than Aggie love when it comes to basketball updates. Here is an exerpt from the email I received:

quote:
In our judgement, there is considerably more interest in Dallas in Texas than Texas A & M. Texas athletics have a statewide following. Texas A&M does not have nearly the following statewide, or in Dallas, that Texas does.

He went on to explain that they had given 8 updates after the UALR game, and that I had just missed them. But it was that top part that got me. It wasn't an angry "must kill" reaction it was a "wow we need to change that" reaction.

I think Bob and Mike Taylor are both sips, so that doesn't surprise me about their opinion about the interest levels for the two programs. I hope in the next few months we can change that. On the court, in the stands and around the nation.

Right now they are correct that there is a bigger following for Texas basketball and athletics in general because they are winning every year in every sport. Once we start winning consistently and challenging for national titles, it will start to even out.

Yes, please post e-mail. I'll be glad to send him a "message."

On the positive side, CSTV reported that we have more than 25,000 subscribers on Aggies All-Access, which is more than any of their other college affiliates.

I was going to prove a point that the excitement around A&M athletics is pretty high, but texas is not one of the schools partnered with CSTV, so it is moot point.

"post the email link so we can bomb that azzhole."

Yeah, that's always a good way to help change media perception about our school and fanbase.

What do you expect? We have been bad for so long, that no one is expecting us to keep up our winning ways.

He gave an honest answer. Why would you want to "bomb" him?

that's a well thought out and articulate condescending sip answer.

We have 6 guys on the team who see significant time that are from the Dallas area, our fan base in Dallas should be growing enormously right now but apparently these guys don't care.

You forgot the word "accurate" in your sentence.

Remember, A&M is still pretty new at this big time basketball thing. Right now, despite our lofty ranking, we're still fighting an uphill battle.

Things don't change overnight. Just because we were a shot away from the Sweet 16 last year, it doesn't mean we're going to sell out Reed Arena for every game immediately. And just because we're now in the top 10 for the first time in 27 years, it doesn't mean the media folks are going to fall in love with us. If we keep BCG around and...more importantly...keep winning, the crowds and media love will come around. Sure, we've got a top 10 ranking, but right now we're a team that's beaten some mediocre to bad teams pretty soundly.

Let's go no worse than 2-1 vs. Pacific, LSU and UCLA and then we'll gripe and complain about media perception.

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. - James 1:19-20 (NIV)

You should listen to 1310 the Ticket. The Hardline in the afternoon give lots of love to Aggie Basketball. I believe one of the guys (Rhyner I think) roomed with BCG back in the day at Ranger...STAY HARD

The people following A&M hoops right now are, for the most part, basketball insiders and those of us who just can't get enough of Aggie sports in general. tu has played at tournament level for over 10 years and has gone deep in the NCAA on numerous occasions. When we start to consistently match this, we won't have to worry about any condescending radio talk show hosts--sip or otherwise--putting us on the back burner.

Rome wasn't built in a day. We all know this, and so does BB and BCG.

We WILL make HUGE strides this season if we can keep winning, particularly over the next couple of weeks. Beating LSU and UCLA will make many of even the most casual fans take a much bigger interest.

UCLA being ranked so highly (hopefully #1 when we play) is like a double whammy for us because of the name recognition people associate with them historically for BBall. A win over them at #1 should carry much more weight towards gaining interest in our program for the casual sports fan than say a #1 rated Ohio State team.

The stars seem to be aligning for our program, let's just hope we can pull it off. One thing is certain--BCG WILL have our boys ready to play.

Greater love hath no man than this...

Sounds to me like we are a "sleeping giant." Of course, I have heard that a gazillion times in the past.

The reality is our overall sports program is very competitive in a lot of areas. We win championships in other sports and do very well. The problem is we haven't been "national" in the most noticeable sports until recently- football, basketball. Then when we did get some love, it was negative (football situation, etc).

The biggest issue this university has is constantly comparing itself to tu. We shoudln't have to do that. We are our own kind- we have tremendous strengths and positives, we have tremendous backing and shouldn't take a back seat to anyone. That we are better than they are is crap. Capitalize on our strengths, on the good we have here; don't worry about what someone else has.

Think of this: if someone has to pound their chest and tell the world how good they are, they aren't that good.

Monarch makes a valid point. If you are going to email them, don't rail them for being tu homers, or explain to them why A&M is just as great. They see that as coming from a bitter fan. Just send them a note saying that you are an avid listener and enjoy their programming, but would like to see more coverage of A&M sports. If enough people do that, they won't have a leg to stand on when it comes to the "interest" arguement.

A&M might be the new kid on the block, but big-time athletics isn't something new to us. 10 years ago, A&M probably had a bigger following than tu in Texas.

No one expects things to change overnight. But the media is not doing there job, if they aren't reporting anything about the #8 basketball team in the country, in it's home state.

The difference in the state-wide fan base is which side of the fence the t-shirt fans are on. With tu winning in the last few years, they were horn supporters> Now, many will switch allegiances to the Ags. Same for basketball, if we are the state's big dog and in the top 10, we have a bigger state-wide "fan" base.

Bob Piccozi is a national broadcaster, not a Dallas guy.

I've heard them talk about our scores in the Sportscenter updates before.
