With the direction we all hope our basketball program is going, do we really want banners celebrating merely making the NCAA tournament?

Although I'm incredibly proud of what the team has done this year, is making the 2nd round of the NCAA really banner worthy? When Kansas rolls into Reed and they see banners proclaming success in the NIT and 1st/2nd round exits of the NCAA on banners they have to find it a bit laughable.

Moving forward, just to make a point of where we want to be, where are goals/standards are, do you think our banner requirements should be AT LEAST Sweet 16 our better?

I want to emphasize that in no way do I feel making the 2nd round of the tournament wasn't a great accomplishment for our team at this point in time. I just feel that at this point in time we have a team/program who's sights are set higher than merely making the tournament, and by putting up a banner of merely making the tournament is a discredit to them in what they believe they can truly accomplish and what their goals should be.

Making the tournament and the second round of the tournament are great accomplishments for this team. Especially after going 0 for the Big 12 a couple years ago. Great accomplishments should be celebrated. It gives the players a reminder of the good season they had and gives them a stepping stone for the next season.

It is normal to put up a banner every time you make the tournament. Every school does it, including Duke and Kansas

Have you never seen the banners that currently reside in Reed Arena?

This team has earned a banner up there. I don't care what other people think, when a team makes the postseason, their accomplishment deserves recognition.

-I have seen the banners in Reed, and compared to the elite college basketball programs they are laughable

-It is an insane accomplishment making the 2nd round this year from 2 years ago not winning a game in Big 12 play, and should be celebrated and deserves recognition as it will get it. However, there are a lot of manners in celebrating an accompishment besides just a banner

-I can't speak for every school, but I've been to Cameron Indoor Stadium and I'm almost positive the only banners they celebrate were ACC championships along with Final 4 or better in the NCAA tournament.

I don't really give 2 ****s about when we put up banners.

I will say however that my brother, an MSU Spartan, about died when he saw at graduation we had banners up for BEING in a tournament.

Every Big 12 school has banners for making the NCAA tournament. Every school.

What should we do give them a freaking cookie?

I'm sick and tired of people like you, do you ever stop complaning? Our team played amazing this year they deserve that banner that 3 other teams in the big 12 will also be getting this year. Please stop being stupid, thanks.

The banners that should go are the NIT banners. We should have one NIT banner with all the years we go to that tournament on it. Not a whole banner that says "NIT First Round 1994."

Also, banners from women's basketball should be in the lobby area or at another location. No one cares about women's basketball.

I agree, one banner for NIT. When I visit Reed I want to remember this great season for Aggie Basketball.

i would ask bcg. if he wants a banner, he gets it.

Loftin, some of us care. Second, federal law now requires that women's programs get the same as men--meaning banners and features on web pages and facilities. So whether you approve or not, the ladies will get their banner.

My friend from KU laughed when she saw our first round banners last year. Now it's a running joke between us. I think we should hang these banners. We should be proud of teams like this.

Awful thread. First time we make the NCAA tournament in 20 years, and you want us to not hang a banner, when virtually every other school (even that ones that go every year) does?

Aww, NO. HELL NO.

Take down some/all the NIT flags, but I want a banner up there 30 years from now, so I can walk in the arena and look up at and think about what a great season we had with Walker, BCG, and the rest of the guys.. This year was truly a turning point for our program. That turning point should be noted and celebrated..

And way off on this. While I do not particularly care for women's sports, what they accomplish as a team should still be recognized.

Win a few conference championships, make the dance a lot more times and then you will see those NIT and NCAA banners compressed into single banners listing years. Gotta have titles and reasons to move the lower banners into the background.

I'd say Kansas needs to concentrate on getting past the first round of the tourney and not on what Banners are hanging from our rafters.

Newsflash: Most schools don't make it every year or even most years, so it is something to celebrate. The men were among the final 32 playing this season. Soak that in and compare it to the past 20 something years. The women made the championship tournament. I am proud of our teams and they deserve recognition. We'll compress them when we get to that point, which is sooner rather than later. The fact is, the programs have been horrific for a long time until now, and we should recognize the teams that let us peek into the possible now before us.

texas has NIT banners up...maybe we should instruct them to take them down to be a real bball school?

Texas only has an NIT Championship banner (if the ags won it, I would have no problem with them hanging a banner, but you didnt), and we dont hang a banner everytime we make the tournament, we just add a year to the NCAA Tournament banner.

What's your point? Is the texas basketball program anywhere near comparable to ours? By that standard, we literally would have 2 banners.
