Chances of A&M making the Big Dance this season?

Last year Texas A&M was the highest ranked team in Sagarin not to make the NCAA tournament. I think if we had beat Oklahoma on the road (how much were we ahead in the first half?) and won our first round (and first ever) Big XII tournament game we would have been in.

I know it's early, but what do you think our chances are this year? If it is the NIT again I'm not sure it will generate the same level of excitement it did last year.

I'm ready for some BILLY BALL!

good chances, the team is looking good and I think Billy has them working extremely hard.

I think we're going to the dance this season but I think you may be wrong about the NIT. I think we'd have a good chance to host almost all the way or all the way till the final four in NY based on our performance and attendance last year. And I think that the students would be excited enough to have post season in Aggieland again that it would be a top 25 basketball arena. Maybe, its tough when you've got really experienced crowds from Duke, KU and such to compete with. But if you were at those NIT games, wow, that was better than some KU games I've been to.

if we go better than .500 in conference play, we will. If we don't, we won't be good enough anyways. I see us pulling out more big wins this years, some of which were 'almost wins' but didn't happen... they will this year!

Let's not generate unreasonable expectations ala the 10-1 and 9-2 crap that was laid out for the football team.

I thinking making the NIT again is a good goal and we MIGHT be a bubble team for the NCAA. We were almost a bubble team last season ... not seriously considered as such.

We lost our top scorer, floor leader and one of the best defenders in Wright. That will be difficult but not impossible to replace. We also lost more than most folks are willing to admit in Walker although I'm not sure exactly how long he'll be out.

Bottom line: NIT with a VERY outside chance at the dance this season.

we lost our best 6th man in Leach, do yall remember that steal he had in one of our games....i forget who it was we were playing but we were behind by only a few had just scored, the opponent passed inbounds and leach jumped him and forced a turnover laying out and passing it off to wright...who missed (i think)

i suck at remembering exact plays but i do remember the major loss Leach was. He was my favorite player personally, him and julius

That is all.

NIT is the minimum this season, with NCAA a possibility if the stars align for a couple games. Remember that we are pretty young this season. Bottom line is that it will be a battle to get in the NCAA's this season but with Gillespie its definetly a possibility.

wheelskjm, I think you're talking about the OSU game at Reed.

7 pm Nov. 20 vs. Southern at Reed Arena - I can't wait!

they may have changed the rules now that the ncaa bought the NIT, but you are only allowed to host two rounds i think before NYC, so no matter how good we are, we wont be hosting till the semis

There is no rule that says you can only host twice. St Joe's hosted 3 games last year and we were sweating that they'd get a 4th against us.

The NCAA might seed the NIT this year anyway.

It is impossible to host 4 since the 4th NIT game is the semis played in NYC. You have 3 rounds played at home venues and it is generally a rule that the NIT will not allow a team to host all 3 rounds. Did any team host all 3 rounds last year?

I don't think there is anything wrong with placing lofty goals out there for the team. I expect them to make the Big Dance this year. I realize it is a tall task, but I have confidence in Billy Clyde and the boys. If things don't go our way, we'll just have to go win the NIT and get ready for the next opportunity to make the Dance.

Learn the game before you spout off. A&M played 3 games last year. A&M had a bye in the opening round. St Joseph's played 6 NIT games last year. 4 on campus and 2 in NYC.

Just so long as people aren't on here wanting BCG's head at the end of the season if we don't make the NCAA's.

Good God no. Any idiot that would call for his job after this season no matter what our record is needs to be castrated, have their hands cut off, and their Internet access revoked for life.

As Gillispie has said many times, if we sell out Reed Arena for every game, then the team goals will be met much quicker. Instead of setting goals for the team, we should be concentrating more on setting goals for the fans. Such as maybe trying to have 9-10 thousand for the opening game.

the NCAA is a serious stretch this season, imo....but with BCG, you never know.

i hope we make the dance, but if we only make the NIT i'll be more than happy to head over to madison square garden and watch the ags (assuming they make it that far in the NIT)

NCAA having their finger in the NIT really muddies the water ... I suspect they'll do a major overhaul of the selection process.

Outsiders perspective.

I think y'all have a great shot to finish sixth in the Big XII and that gives you an outside shot at the tourney. But you have to win 9 games in conference I just dont see 8-8 getting you in.

our team will play better all around, but wright was a huge asset, and we will miss him in crunch time, not to say that other leaders wont step up, chirs walker is still a motivator, regardless, ill be there every home game, and some of the roadies as well hoping for the best
