Depending on who you ask, he is the best or second best player in the class of 2006. He is the #2 player in the country behind Greg Oden on the rivals 150 basketball players.

if the min age requirement passes as expected, he will.

if not, he's a lottery pick and as good as gone.

He probably will, but that QB that now plays for LSU committed to Texas first and then changed his mind in the end.

Incredible pickup. Gotta give credit when due. Question, though, why no NBA?

The only reason he won't go pro is if the NBA puts in an age limit. It's funny how guys jumping to the pros so much more frequently is changing the way you have to go about basketball recruiting. A guy like JJ Redick is the best kind of guy to recruit nowadays. He's not the most talented guy in his class, but he's a really good player anyway, and he doesn't have a real high NBA potential so you know you're gonna get 4 years of production out of him. Guys like Gerald Green and CJ Miles and maybe this guy look good for the rankings, but they don't do you any good.

JJ Redick was a McDonald's All-American. The dude was at the top of his class.

I think the point Santos made is that JJ was a good bet not to jump to the NBA. Even though he was a highly thought of recruit, he never seemed like the kind to go pro early.

College baseball has been playing this game for a long time. The very top recruits rarely make it to campus. Of course, with baseball, at least you will get three years to play them if they do enroll.

I think that has to do also (or at least somewhat) with the economic background that many of the kids come from. They jump at the chance to provide for their family. And whether we like it or not, it's a big reason why diversity in college baseball is really not that high.

This commitment should shut up all the 'Does Rick Barnes fear Coach Gillespie or Scott Drew' talk.

If Texas lands Augustine with Durant, that is just sick.

I'll take a guy like Carmello Anthony or LeBron James for a single year any day.
