Scheduling, SOS and RPI Question

So if instead of 2 D2 opponents, if we'd scheduled Illinois and UNC, would we be considered a lock? Same number of tourney eligible wins (I'll assume L's for those games early in the season in C-U and Chapel Hill), but 2 more loses, but much higher SOS/RPI?

Another thought, with the weight placed on road wins, should we just schedule a bunch of small school, small conference (Patriot League bottom dwellers?) schools AWAY to start the season?

But would the team had been in the same place psychologically had we lost to good programs instead of being undefeated?

I know that those two wins do not count in our win column, but are they factored in to our SOS? Seems kind of BS to let them count against.

If we had played some of the lower teams away also. Seems road wins now outrank home ones.

That is sad since home money is so much better, yet they want teams to play on the road.

Next year, I vote we schedule non-conference road games against nothing but Top 20 opponents. That way, even if we only win 1-2 in non-conf., and go 8-8 in conf., we'd be a NCAA tourney lock!

Makes sense to me....

Looks like to me that the main problem this year is that BCG underestimated what kind of players he inherited. He scheduled to accomplish two things (1) build up some confidence among his players by winning a lot of games and (2) get the students and exes interested in the program with a winning record. He did a great job of both, in fact probably too good. The team exceeded all expectations and the fans are talking about the NCAA tourney. This was not anticipated, I would bet. Now the non-conference schedule is biting him in the ass and he must resort to a tactic that has been widely criticized on this board. He looks like he is pulling a Mack Brown and trying to talk and lobby his team into the tournament. The solution is simple but it can't happen this year-next year just give up some of those sure wins and home games and schedule a few decent teams and road games in nonconference. Unless you win the conference or the conference tournament I don't think you can have it both ways.

I don't see where Billy is lobbying. His comments have been directed towards our schedule, and he would probably do it differently if he had it to do again.
