Girl beaters and flunkies to play basketball?
IF they ALREADY know that PJtuKER IS FAILING then why do they allow him to play????? IF he is failing now then he needs to go now. Not be allowed to keep playing....What kind of example is that?? You can fail out but as long as its not the deadline you are ok.......

Didnt we suspend Nick Anderson in late December a few years back? I feel confident that we didnt wait until mid January when school started...

Nick was suspended in late December. Tucker has played in 6 games since the time A&M suspended Nick.

Well then this sure does not reflect well on the player, coach or the AD much less the univ.
And the fact that they are allowed to get away with it does not look good for the ncaa. A few of us on here have said that coach barns is all class....Hmmm, really??????

if the rules are that you can't play in the spring semester what good does it do to tell a guy he can't play prior to that point? A good coach will do everything that he can for the team and the players. By letting him play until the suspension begins (which isn't official yet) the kid is more likely to have reason to work and get back on the team next year.

As for Klotz, I guess no one deserves a second chance.

NICE SPIN......WE want to know why he is allowed to play NOW....He is failing NOW...So why is he allowed to play NOW.......Its about doing the right thing and not letting basketball come before grades........

I'd like to know what rule UT is breaking or bending? Considering nothing is known as fact yet, it would be hard for you to know.

If the rule states you have to have x number of hours at the beginning of the semester to be eligible, then the player is eligible until the beginning of the semester if and when he doesn't have the hours.

t.u. is doing nothing wrong. I'd guess we went ahead and suspended Anderson to get our team some practice without him.

They said on ESPN tonight that the Horns are still appealing, so maybe there's still a chance his grade will be changed by the professor in question.

What does letting him play do for the team? Seems like it sends a bad message to them and keeps them from getting in good time with his replacement.

Nice that "they" are appealing, meaning probably the athletic department. Any other student appeals by his lonesome I guess.

env788, short term it helps tonight with depth as Aldridge isn't going to play, but really for the rest of the season it isn't much of a help. However, I'm looking more towards next year thinking that Texas will make a run towards the final four next year and every game the PJ plays in is just more experience. Hopefully he'll take care of his business and get back next season.

forgot to ask how is this sending a bad message, the guy is still going to miss the entire 2nd half of the season including the tournament? I think he will receive plenty of punishment, hopefully he decides to study and come back next year unlike many players who decide to say f it and leave school.

I gotta agree with 1999. If he's only ineligible for the spring, then there's nothing wrong with him playing before that. He should definitely sit out the spring if that's the case though and I really don't think anybody could argue that.

Its putting the individual before the team.
UT1999
How long do you want to ignore this user?
env788 by losing elgibility he has let the team down. However if he can help the team prior to losing his elgibility then I don't have a problem with it. To be honest if they know 100% sure that he will be inelgible tomorrow I'd prefer him not to play unless the team votes otherwise.

The problem is not with tu, it's with the rule. tu simply chooses to take full advantage of the situation and probably will get extra time with bs appeals.

We all know that if a player fails the fall semester he shouldn't be playing once the fact is known that he has failed. The rule is bs. Some schools may take the high road, but don't expect tu to.

So will this unfortunate incident buy him another year of eligibility?

thats the problem, if the team thinks they need him to win what are they going to do when he's declared ineligible? If he missed a test for a wedding or a funeral thats one thing, but if he just didnt get it done, that sends the wrong message to the student-atheletes. The AD is basically saying that if your good it doesnt matter what your grades are, we'll get them changed so you can play.

I dont know the WHOLE story, so I'll give him the benefit here, but if he just didnt do his work then I have no sympathy for him at all.

i still dont get it. whats to appeal? he failed or he didnt. if he was a normal student then he would not have his grades changed so why should it be any different if he was an athlete? as for klotz, thats just unacceptable. there's no way a guy who beats women should be allowed to play. period. sips can make fun of our troubles with arrests all they want to, but at least we discipline our players.

Yeah and by the looks of todays paper you have one more to add to the most disciplined team in the NCAA.

actually that guy probably wont be signed now that hes been arrested again. while chris collins,(the guy who raped a 12 year old, which is probably one of the worst crimes you can possibly commit)looks to still be goin to texas. you guys are in no place to call out people's recruits arrest records.

fgtntexag07, not really as he'll be tied up in legal matters and therefore wont have time to play...btw, he hasn't been judged by a jury of his peers guilty. He's just been indicted. That means nothing...

UT1999....YOU ARE NOT....NOT....GETTING THE POINT HERE!!!! Again, let me say that texas by ncaa rules has not done anything wrong. Now, listen up here...What we are saying is this, why is PJ being allowed to play by his coach and AD? IF he is failing his classes then he needs to be removed from the team period. Otherwise, he is allowed to play as a failing student and that means the coach, AD and tu are putting basketball before grades which reflects badly on the school...Once he has been found to be a failure then he is removed A.S.A.P. Do you get it now???????

How can you say this is putting the individual before the team? The coach is doing everything in his power to win. Holding him out of this game isnt going to help his grades. Letting him play thought helped them beat a top 10 OSU team and will in turn help their ranking which will in turn lower their seed in the NCAA tourney which will give them an easier road through the tourney. Im sorry but 1 game isnt going to help his replacement all that much. Especially since his main replacement is injured. The sips will now rotate Klotz, Buckman, and Aldridge down low at the 4 and 5 once Aldridge returns. The 'replacement' will not see a lot of minutes. The other 3 will just see increased minutes and with Aldridge injured they had to play Tucker if they wanted to beat OSU.

UT1999
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No I get your point you are just wrong, and even other Ags have told you that. Not sure how you think him playing basketball prior to the semester beginning is picking basketball over school.

BTW, you have to get the UIL mentality out of you thought process this is not no pass no play. Athletes actually can fail a class and still play, although most will drop a class prior to failing. The requirements are a certain GPA and X number of hours. As the school isn't legally allowed to ever say anything about a kids grades, I find it hard to believe they would ever suspend a player sooner than necessary.

SPIN SPIN SPIN...What other ag has told me so? Please, the fact is tu looks the other way when things go south with its players. Drugs, grades, rape you name it...... Win at all costs no matter whay huh????

What makes it unseemly is that if PJ was a regular student, he would not be participating. If a regular student was on sco-pro and needed to get his grades up to stay in school, got his grades and didn't make it, do you think he'd be enjoying the benefits of an enrolled student one day before the semester starts? Do you think he'd be able to live in a dorm, register for classes, use facilities, etc.? No, because when he got his grades (a month ago) he'd be informed that he would be gone. Maybe the computers miraculously slow down the computation of grades when a huge Big XII game against a ranked opponent is approaching, and PJ's status is still undetermined. The appeals process will likely take its course too -- and be resolved right before the sips play Kansas. Try as you may to spin this sips, but PJ would not have played yesterday if Baylor was on the schedule instead of Okie State.

Regular students don't bring in millions of $$$$ to the university. Regular students aren't travelling all over the country during the semester. If an A&M player was failing and the athletic department didn't at least try to come to his aid, they would be dropping the ball bigtime.

Good grief guys....

First off, the semester hasn't started yet.... so it isn't like PJ could have been off studying in place of playing ball. Let the kid play until his last eligible game....

Second, I personally don't like Klotz as a player and I can't stand the idea of anyone 'beating his girlfriend'.... but niether you nor I have a clue to the degree of what happened. I don't think it is right for you guys to be making judgements on people you don't know.

Lastly.... someone mentioned one of our LB recruits raped a 12 year old girl. WTF? Where did you hear this? I wouldn't be spreading blasphemy like that if you didn't know it to be absolutely true - that is completely classless and harsh.
