ag04-i think that the fans themselves loose a lot of momentum when everyone sits during timeouts...i guess we'll have to start doing some yells or something during TOs to keep momentum going.

i'll be one of the first on the court if we beat Texas, and there will be lots of Aggies rushing the court too.

Some of you "old fogeys" and boring people need to get a life and off your high horse. No one is destructing property when they rush the court and the team would love it. God, some Aggie fans really give us the "boring" traditional image.

My reasoning has nothing to do with what other schools do.

It is just my personal opinion.

I don't know, there's pros and cons.

I'de like to see the whole student section uncover and do the yells and stand the entire game before worrying about rushing the court...you know...doing the whole A&M traditions thing would be nice.

But then part of me thinks if we do rush the court maybe...just maybe everyone that was there will tell everyone that wasn't and attendance might pick up and take crowd involvment up with it, which would be nice.

I plan on just plain yelling my throat dry and whatever happens happens.

me and my buddy ran over a fat*ss security guard (seriously laid him out) against Mizzou to get on the court then got about 15 seconds airtime on the news with jumping up and down Marcus Watkins in front of the camera for it

those that think were 'too good' for it can stay in the stands, it doesnt really matter what you think you won't change a thing. I'm All for it

Rushing the court is like tearing down the goal posts - CHILDISH at best.

Half the people that will be attending the games have NEVER been to an Aggie basketball game. Its kind of like how most students did not attend football games last year, or the year before........ I can't wait for those 2nd deck, rows 1-10 seats to become TMF tickets so I can UPGRADE my seats - it'll happen within 2 years because of current student apathy & lameness.

Then again, what the heck do I know?

Whoa whoa whoa, I'm not saying that anybody is or isn't too good for it. I'd probably be on the court too. However...

That's the only thing I'm against. Some of these people are seriously old ladies. I don't want to see somebody get injured because some kids want to be on tv for 15 seconds. I'd hate to have real cops be forced to patrol the court after the game because there was an injury that could have been easily avoided.

Not only childish but to me it seems like trying to put yourself on an equal footing with the team. Yelling in an attempt to distract/hurt the other team while the game is in progress is one thing; running onto the floor/field afterwards is just plain stupid.

not really. running onto the court doesn't do thousands of dollars of damage, tearing down goal posts does.

I was there against tu in 1994 or 1995 when we beat them at G.Rollie....And yes we DID RUSH THE COURT! Bravehart Style!!!

So, alot of people running on to a basketball court does not do any damage. Recall growing up how many times you were told gym shoes only on the court.
-----------------------------------
Funny, when we used to win AND EXPECTED TO WIN, we did not rush the court.

-----------------------------------

Face it, ITS CHILDISH and as someone else said ITS LIKE TRYING TO PUT THE FANS ON THE SAME LEVEL AS THE TEAM - competition wise.

I am sickened by this thread. You might as well mark this one down in the loss column! The basketball gods do not like discussing such things! We must win the game before this even matters...

Those are FOOTBALL traditions people. They pertain specifically to football. Why force that stuff on basketball? Do we do it for volleyball, baseball, soccer, track, etc?

Ok, let me get this straight...

Rushing the court is bad because we don't want to act "childish".

But jingling keys and counting dribbles on free throws isn't "childish".

Oh yes, but we're supposed to also act like "we've been there before"... That makes sense... Duke, Kansas, North Carolina and all of those other schools that rush the court after upsets must not have ever "been there before"... Good thing Texas A&M has. Where is it we've been again?

I think I'm starting to get it now... This whole basketball and traditions thing has really thrown me for a loop!

Yeah A&M had tradtions and likes to be different -- but it gets pretty damn stupid when we stop doing fun, exciting, "rites of passage" type things that hundreds of other college fans do beacuse we want to be "different".

It's like we're trying to breed a fan with a mentality of a 45 year old CEO. Exciting stuff.

Baseball we dont... We dont need to do that crap at Basketball, football is football, the 12th man is a football thing. Go see some basketball and watch us rush the court when we BTHOtu

How long do you want to ignore this user?
mhayden, you just dont get it. What Sportscenter and the public crave to see if A&M were to somehow end it's 2 year long conference losing streak at home against it's archrival is people quietly getting out of their seats and walking out of the arena.

That kind of footage is what sells, baby.

I went to almost every home game for 7 years, and was fortunate enough to get to rush the court a few times. It's a great memory, and it's not this huge crime some of you think it is. It's a group of people showing their happiness. And I know for me, it was a chance to show the players that we appreciated them by going down and celebrating WITH them. I guarantee you they liked it.

some of you people have to be some of the most boring individuals. Damn, lighten up and watch our students rush the floor if we do in fact beat Texass.
mhayden_original
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Exactly... I remember the look of some of the players after we upset Mizzou, and they seemed pretty damn happy that the fans rushed the court.

So if supporting the players and doing something that makes them excited to be a part of the A&M program involves breaking out of the nazi regime some of you would like at sporting events, then so be it.

forget the 40, first shut out in modern era. And then we'll just quietly walk away.

Both fall under the 'if a frog had wings...' category.

When we win this game, the court will be rushed. You dont like it move out of the way.

and for the no basketball tradition thing. Everytime somebody tries to get something started people come out of the woodwork talking about how stupid it is. We've just now gotten people to do the "you you you" chant and swaying during free throws. If we can get a whole set of things unique to basketball going, maybe the YL's will have a purpose at the games.

Um no! The scenario was presented as if we win the game (not "when" we win the game). Nobody is acting like this is going to be a for sure W. The Ags will have to play very good basketball to win this game.

Some of you people need to realize different sports have different atmospheres. I still remember someone saying something about Olsen and how the fans talked so much trash.. ITS BASEBALL!! Let it go people really.. and for this jerk off:

Dont rush the court.... the people that said this must have not gone to north gate when they had the basketball team out there?? if you would have you would have heard Billy G saying he cant wait to have the fans and the team on the court after a great win!!

If Billy says its fine then a rushin we will go

I agree with this. A BTHO yell here and there is fine. And Sit Down Bus Driver is absolutely made for basketball (and volleyball). But the others aren't. We need to develop something different.
We really really shouldn't be doing yells at soccer. The yells just don't make sense there since soccer doesn't stop. We need chants and stuff there (ex: When England plays Germany they chant "2 World Wars & 1 World Cup" -- we need something about how we beat texas 14 or 15 times before they got one on us, etc for the schools we play).
Volleyball is alright with me.
Softball needs some help. But we don't need to turn it into Olsen Jr.

If I could make any one change though, we wouldn't do the Gig 'Em Yell at the 2nd half. There's no tip-off. It makes absolutely no sense.

Completely unrelated, but my soapbox is baseball. Just don't jingle keys at baseball, that's what they do in Austin. But yes, I realize we're talking about basketball so jingle away.
