It would never happen but I'd like to see all of the P4 conferences come together and make an agreement to have a max on what they will pay these schools...like $50,000 or something, just to reset the market.

It shouldn't be the job of A&M to subsides the athletic departments of the SWAC.

Or you want to fix prices huh.

Seems like that goes against antitrust law.

Does that seem like a lot of money to you? I would have guessed they paid more than that.

I think it's interesting that Holy Cross is the furthest away and the cheapest. I assume we got some kind of discount because they're playing at TCU two days after they play here, maybe we only had to cover the inbound flight and TCU is covering the outbound.

Considering that this money pays for their travel it doesn't really seem like all that much to me.

$75,000 in 2008, less than 20 years ago, is now the equivalent of $120,000 in 2026 dollars.

Based on that. we are getting some good deals.

In 1995 these guarantee games were $25,000 plus expenses. And usually a little bonus for the head coach.

UTRGV had a head coach fired back in the day after he 'accidentally' deposited one of those checks into his personal bank account.

Ha I looked it up. Delray Brooks!

Quote:

Brooks was fired in August 1999 after a university investigation revealed that he had misappropriated athletic funds. Specifically, he was accused of depositing a $25,000 checkissued by Southwest Missouri State University for a road game/tournamentdirectly into his personal bank account and subsequently making cash withdrawals.

Quote:

In May 2000, Brooks pleaded no contest to stealing the money and was sentenced to 10 years of probation. In 2006, he faced additional legal trouble and was arrested for a probation violation after failing to pay the required court-ordered restitution.

Quote:

Prior to his coaching career, Brooks was a highly decorated high school basketball phenom, being named the 1984 USA Today National High School Player of the Year, before playing collegiately under Bob Knight at Indiana and Rick Pitino at Providence

This is a business transaction, not a subsidy.

I'm from the RGV. This isn't surprising at all lol
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.
