I still assume a series of NCAA/court decisions are coming that are going to at least partially bail him out

I know the NCAA is a sham and there are no rules, but I would assume that even if they've got guys who they're anticipating are going to be ruled eligible by the start of the season they would still be ineligible to practice and work out with the team for the time being? I don't see how they could practice or even begin to implement their philosophy with so few bodies.

I've had two thoughts on LSU this entire offseason:

1) Will Wade knew that there was no way he was going to field a competitive team without some real seismic rules things happening, so he basically intentionally signed players that he knew weren't going to be eligible. When the NCAA says they're not eligible he's going to do a 'woe is me, they're out to get us' thing that LSU fans will eat up because they've already decided that hiring Wade in the first place is somehow sticking it to the man. All as a cover for how bad they're going to be this year anyway and to rally the fanbase behind him even more.

2) Even with him doing that, something stupid is going to happen allowing most of the players to be eligible and for them to be better than expected.

yea but those corndoggers hate to lose. If Lane has good year then they won't care. But if they have another bad football year and MBB sucks. They better make it all the way in baseball or they will burn BR to the ground.

I felt like LSU basketball has had some real stinker years in their recent history in conference so I looked it up. I mean they never pulled a Melvin Watkin's 0-fer but still.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LSU_Tigers_men's_basketball_seasons

Since Dale Brown's last 2 seasons starting in 1996 they have had:

Four 3 win seasons.
Five 2 win seasons.

9 of those seasons out of the past 30. For reference we have had 6 of those (including the 0 and a 1) in the same time period.

So their only coach in the past 6 that hasn't had at least one 2 win or 3 win conference season is Will Wade and he is the only one since Dale Brown that has been over .500 for his career in conference there. So yeah I understand their Will Wade love a little better now.

Nah, if they suck in basketball they just don't care. I think that's part of the genius behind this move by Wade, though I hate to give him any credit for anything that smart, but he's trying to do a circle the wagons "us against the world" thing.

they also supposedly have multiple 5th year guys waiting in the wings in case the euro guys are ineligible. personally think they are going to be pretty terrible either way.

You have to admire LSU's desire to win above anything else.

Then don't. They absolutely do not care about anything but winning. I hate them and hope it fails.

Wade's grand plan will come down to the courts, literally and figuratively. If all the players he recruited are eligible to play, LSU will have one of the oldest and most experienced rosters in the sport. However, it could come crashing down if some or a majority of those players are ruled ineligible.

Is it a risk? Absolutely. Could it pay off? We will see.

Dent and Clark's eligibility status will be the same as Jordan Pope's btw. They're all part of the same lawsuit in California.

I also don't really think it's a risk in the sense that Wade didn't really have any other choice if he wants to win this season. It was either take risky guys and maybe be competitive or just accept you're going to be terrible this year and save the money.

Luis clearly won't be allowed to play for LSU . Dunno about the rest of them. I'd guess the UCLA transfers will.

will the "International Players" be eligible to play at LSU?

In any case, this is a great year for LSU's Intramural MVP to come try out for the benchwarmer position for the Bayou Bengals as it seems they might need bodies to fill the roster.

i think right now the question is, will they be willing to stick around long enough to find out, or just take their ball and go back to europe?

I think the europeans are going to be eligible for at least this season.

He's probably scouting the intramural courts for walk-on players.

Not really, but it makes me happy to think about it

How many players does Will Wade, LSU basketball have on roster?
Cory Diaz, Lafayette Daily Advertiser

BATON ROUGE Where do things stands for Will Wade with his LSU men's basketball roster following a number of eligibility court cases across the country over the last several weeks?

A team spokesperson told The Daily Advertiser Sept. 9 that LSU currently lists just four active players on its roster, which are all officially announced back in June. Those guys are guard Abdi Bashir Jr. (6-4, 170), forward Mouhamed Dioubate (6-8, 235), guard Austin Nunez (6-2, 175) and junior guard Divine Ugochukwu.

LSU has two commits from players that have been granted a fifth year of eligibility through temporary restraining orders through a California judge in UCLA guards Skyy Clark and Donovan Dent.
Neither signed contracts with any professional organizations, so many believe their path seems clear to play for Wade and the Tigers in 2026-27.

RJ Luis is the player that LSU has tried to bring in that likely won't be able to suit up. Despite a Louisiana court ruling in his favor for a fifth year in a high-profile case and could have paved a way for him to return from the NBA professional ranks to college, a recent court filing in an Alabama federal court by the Southeastern Conference could end his attempt to return.

After going undrafted this past NBA Draft in June, Luis ended up signing a two-way deal with the Utah Jazz. Luis was traded away to the Boston Celtics before the NBA G League started but he did not play in the NBA's summer league due to injury.

While Luis is technically eligible thanks to the judge granting him an injunction, how things have transpired with LSU football and its failed pursuit to add a pair of athletes that signed deals with NFL teams after going undrafted, it seems less likely that Luis will play for LSU this season.
