Rick Barnes has removed himself from consideration for this basketball game.

Whenever Barnes decides to hang it up I hope he does it before the season so the Rowdies can plan something special for him at Reed. Dude's been a great sport about the whole thing for going on like 25 years now.

I'm envisioning like a framed personalized jersey with a watermelon on the front or something.

I hadn't heard that but I'd believe it. I remember reading a story about an older A&M fan than he became friends with over loaves of bread or something wild also.

Obviously I hope we beat the **** out of them this year, but I've said on here before that I really hope Barnes can get a title before he hangs it up. One of the good ones.

Agree 100%. I like Rick Barnes a lot...but that doesn't mean it's not fun to pick on him.

When he was coach at Clemson, they game to GRW for a non-conference game. Maybe 1996 or so? Anyway, they were top 10 and we were...well...we were not good. He was great with the GRW "crowd" even back then.

He's a really good guy (I live outside of Knoxville, so hear him speak frequently). Really solid christian guy. Very humble, and has modified his coaching throughout his career.

If you polled Aggie basketball fans and Texas basketball fans I bet you'd see a higher percentage of Aggies with a fondness for Barnes than sips.

I bet that would have been true ten years ago but maybe not anymore.

Maybe… I have a sip friend that does Vegas March Madness with us and he always chides me for betting on Tennessee because he says "Barnes will let you down every time." It's like battered sip syndrome.

Ask him if he'd trade their last ten seasons for Tennessee's.

It had become stale there so I think it made sense for both sides to move on, but they've been all over the map since he left.

They're gonna be real good this year though.

Oh, I understood where you're coming from. I agree. I'm not sure he would admit it, though.

Their fan base is a little like ours too where, for the most part, they'd rather just keep rolling the dice than just be consistently pretty good because if they're bad at basketball they just don't care.
