Between the 2026 Men's College Basketball Champs and Texas Aggies Men's Basketball:

Dusty May, the Michigan Coach who orchestrated the incredible turnaround after Juwan Howard's losing season the year before last, winning the title in two years with a starting lineup consisting entirely of portal transfers, was hired to coach in Ann Arbor after his success as the head basketball coach at Florida Atlantic University during the previous 4 years (which included their own improbable Final Four run when their second round opponent was the 16 seed rather than the 1 seed).

However, 19-20 years ago, Dusty May was just an assistant coach... under Billy Kennedy at Murray State for one season before moving to a couple of other places over the next few years prior to joining Mike White at Louisiana Tech and hitching himself to that staff for the remainder of his time as an assistant coach. Of course, Kennedy was hired to replace Mark Turgeon several years after his one year of working with May and became our head coach.

Wouldn't be surprised if this was already discussed on another thread and earlier post - but I don't recall seeing it mentioned or discussed.

BTHO both recruiting and "obtaining" some real talent (and size) out of the Transfer Portal to make next year even better than this past year for Aggie Basketball!

I didn't realize that. Thanks for sharing.

Pretty incredible job by Dusty.

Now that Bucky has some time and hopefully a little bit more NIL I'm excited to see what he's going to do.

We have a couple of other Kennedy coaching tree members on Bucky's staff. We don't hear much about how the staff splits up duties but if Luke or Nuño could address that with Bucky, I'm sure it would be an interesting topic?

First they had the Fab 5, but it took the Trans 5 to win a title.

How much did they pay for their bunch of mercenaries? How much will A&M bid for a team?
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really

About $10 million supposedly. But roster management was more important than raw volume of cash.

The crazy part is these transfers were either actually playing down or not wanted at their previous schools.

Mara was absolutely incredible. About as dominant/impactful of a player in the Final Four as I've ever seen and he was getting second tier bench minutes at UCLA last year. Either that's a big development year (totally possible as a huge big) or he was misused under Cronin.

UConn had no answer for him. He appeared every bit as skilled as Edy from what I saw. I think May really knows how to coach bigs. Remember he had Golden playing PG at times last season.

Cadeau showed flashes at UNC, but he was not used properly. He is not a good finisher, as you could see in the semifinal when he was 2/14 and still the best player on the court. You set screens to get him in the paint, and he's a great decision maker, and if he runs out of real estate he just bricks something off the glass and lets his bigs clean up the ORB. Another indictment of Hubert Davis not figuring out how to use a 5 star.
