I was curious enough to spend a minute looking this up.

At Michigan State in 23 mins he had 12 points on 4/6 shooting, including 2/3 from 3.

Not a high major opponent, but one that did some damage in the tournament- he had 16 vs High Point this year.

I think Walls is likely a bottom part of the rotation guy, somewhere around 9th-11th in average minutes.

Luke says two other G League players who have never played in college were already ruled eligible this season by the NCAA. I don't think we would've gone after him if we didn't feel good about his eligibility.

Im assuming this guy is gonna be eligible, based on a couple other decisions. My main concern this offseason is to replace Griffen and this is it. We got a backcourt. If Hill came back we might have THE backcourt

He played in the Overtime Elite League, then joined the G League, entered the NBA Draft (went unselected), played on the Heat's Summer League team, and then returned to the G League.

Interesting path.

Went straight from HS to pros but never made it to NBA level. Not drafted by NBA. 21 yrs old.

This next part is speculation on my part but I suspect a player can now sometimes make better $ playing college ball than G-League or International pro ball and also perhaps develop his game just as well and get more exposure as well. I'm not sure about eligibility but I suspect he can play 4 yrs of college ball if he wants to since he has played none to date. This last comment may be deemed silly by some and it may or may not be silly, but maybe he actually wants a college education as well.

Hill would go from effective to wildly ineffective game-to-game, bc he relied on scoring at the basket despite his short size. Mediocre jump shot. I bet we replace him with a guard who can shoot jumpers assuming Hill is not eligible.

I dont expect him back, he can start for a lot of teams. If 5th year senior guard Marcus Hill is clearly only your 3rd/4th best guard, thats ridiculous.

Reece will fit a bigger need than Hill, although I'd love to have Hill back as well.

They play different positions. But even on a pure talent assessment, you're comparing a 5th year college player vs a true fish, and Reece's performance was on a steep upward trajectory the last month+ of the season. How does that play out next year with an already developed guy in his sixth year of college vs a guy in his second year who's on a steep upward trend?

Regardless, Reece is a PG, not an undersized SG like Hill, and he has a much better 3 point shot than Hill already.

Reece fits a bigger need on this year's team, and also allows for continuity for next year.

That's interesting info. Maybe this is one of those cases where a player is actually interested in getting an education and/or degree as well. Might be thinking beyond just his basketball playing days .
