Why doesn't Pop Issacs get more minutes?

He averages 21 min off the bench, but he had 15 min vs OU, 15 vs Ole Miss, 13 vs Mizzou, 14 vs Bama. Solid defender, and one of our best three point shooters. Very heady player.

Seems like he should either be starting or getting more of a portion of Lane/Griffen/Holloway/Hill's minutes.

I thought he played well in the 1H tonight. I was surprised how few minutes he got late, especially when we couldn't buy a bucket.

Pop seems to be an instant offense/microwave guy and then get him the hell off the court before he does something incredibly dumb. He gives a lot of frustration fouls on defense after rebounds on a missed shot. He plays with his heart completely on his sleeve, and I honestly vibe with that a lot.

I think it's taken awhile for Bucky to get a feel for when to insert him in the game, but the positives have gotten more frequent during conference play IMO. I think his PT is about where it should be.

Dumb fouls on D and prone to turnover. He can get hot from deep but can otherwise be a liability. I still think we'll get a big game from him down the stretch

Last game vs Ole Miss he had 3 turnovers in that time. Tonight he was clutch with those 3's and I don't recall any turnovers. So I bet his minutes uptick. Tonight we played Lane more and Holloway again, so that limited his minutes probably. And played a tall lineup a lot to match their bigs rebounding.

Holloway missed two front end 1 and 1's tonight. Was not good on defense. Would have much preferred more Pop.

Yep 0-4 from the FT line. A lot of minutes for him.

When the cameras were on Pop on the bench he was looking out space with a toally defeated posture. Not a good look. Needs to support his team and maybe he is, but he also needs to look like he is supporting his team.

Reading Pop's emotions looks like a fool's errand but, in some ways, not as much as figuring out the playing time. For example, Vinson seemed to be making significant progress a few weeks ago and has almost vanished since. Last night he was pretty active around the goal then disappeared after he got called (I thought it was a bad call) for goal tending on a put back. Not complaining…Bucky's instincts and rationales always seem to hold water in the final analysis.

I like Pop, I just think it's hard to trust him right now, especially in a tight game. But he gave us some good minutes in the first half last night. He was terrible against Ole Miss.

I think he is great but I dont want him in there late. He seems anti clutch.

Last night I think he didn't understand the defensive game plan. He was routinely helping off the spot up shooter. After that happened a couple times I didn't see him back.

He was ready on offense last night though.

Because Bucky rotates deeply to keep fresh legs and plays the stat decision game like the poker player he has been???

I like the headband look on pop.

He really may be an x factor for this team down the stretch. When he's really good, it's better than lane and halloway. Just gotta stay locked in

Pop has the ability to single-handedly win the game for you or single-handedly lose it for you.

On the other hand, the game without the braids was one of his worst. Can't remember if that was Mizzou or Vandy.

This is the answer - it's hard to trust him. No one questions his hard work, dedication, desire to win, etc. But he just makes way too many head-up-the-butt mistakes to overcome the positives he provides.

I keep seeing comments like this that make Pop out to be some super emotional or hot headed player. Is this just a reference to his tattoos and appearance? He has a very consistent stoic expression from what I have seen. Even when the Florida scuffle was going on he looked the same.

I think it's more his actual play than his facial expressions. He's an absolute chaos agent. Aggressive passes, risky defense, etc.

I'm choosing to believe he's been building up negative energy to unleash an all-timer performance against like Arkansas or Texas. Though he did have some good minutes last game.

Has a lot of that Wade Taylor in him, which drove me up the wall. Just inexplicably bad basketball decisions to go along with his talented shooting.

Just a small thing, but a few games ago Pop gets sent in for the first time- he immediately dribbles down outside the right lane and takes (misses) a jumper from about 15' away early in the shot clock. I think it was the first mid-range shot of the day for A&M and I strongly doubt it is what Bucky was asking for.

This is 100% correct. He is the epitome of an all or nothing player. He's either red hot and draining shots or he's the biggest liability on the court.
