What's funny is his team wasn't a good FT shooting team this year. Better than A&M though. 2.7% better than the Aggies.

The word is the Aggies never worked on FT's under Buzz. In fact, they were banned from shooting free throws in the Cox-McFerrin center.

I don't think they did a good job shooting FT and Buzz's teams usually struggled at the line. So it's not much of an insult to say they didn't prioritize it.BuzzFan24 said:

Isn't the "good fight" as an Aggie basketball fan supporting the coach who chose to be here now, not the one who left of his own volition?

My guess is team bus 1 didn't care about practicing FTs.
Bad example because he was a good FT shooter, but IVs IDGAF attitude for free throw practice.

I think you kind of missed his point.
Shaq didn't play basketball. He stood in the lane shoving people away then took a pass turned around and dunked it. Any player that tried to stop him was called for a foul.

Yeah I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we didn't practice free throws and shooting. I think Buzz looked at Buzz's Big Book of Questionable Statistics and decided the ROI on shooting practice wasn't worth it. If you believe your team will shoot their average regardless, your time will be better spent practicing rebounding and defense. At this stage in your career either you can shoot or you can't. Wasn't that his philosophy on not guarding the 3-pt line? Because hot shooters will regress to their average eventually? Just my thoughts on the matter.

I feel dumber after visiting this thread.
Sounds like he plays a style that requires all players to be able to step out and hit a 3….maybe like FL's bigs. Can shaq hit a 3? Wouldn't fit his system. Nothing wrong with that. Just doesn't fit his system and I wouldn't want him to switch his style because he's got players that don't fit it. Instead find players that do fit.Dimond1968 said:

One of the teams in the final four shot 150 free throws a day in practice. Maybe Buzz couldn't alot that much time for FTs cause our guys had to practice stuff like diving for loose balls. But, shooting FTs well requires skills to be refined, and to be very repetitive under pressure like a golf swing. Diving for loose balls just takes effort.

You are completely missing his point. He played whoever he could get at Samford. I'm sure there are plenty of things that his players could not do as well as the A&M players. A&M paid players which should have been much better players and should have been able to shoot fts better than we did.
He is saying that he expects his players to make fts and if they can't then they probably can't hit 3 pts very often and he wants to shoot 3 pts.
Our high school team took more than 100 a day. Bama's kids take 500 a day, same for Duke. Go look at their team FT % versus ours.BuzzFan24 said:

Buzz and his supporters insisting that 100 a day was sufficient when we lost multiple big games over the past several years because we couldn't make a FT when it mattered is just comical.
And who cares if they shot 100? How did they do it? Was it just standing there mindlessly shooting 100 so they could tick off the box and go home? Or did they create pressure situations for the kids (i.e, everyone runs a mile or bleachers 10 times at Reed if the don't make X free throws).
Our approach at the line sucked. Granted when you recruit a bunch of kids for off court reasons instead of ability to shoot the basketball, that's what you get.
Buzz is gone, just stop defending him and move on.
Bama was statistically average this year at exactly 72%.

I remember Mike Leach saying if a QB isn't an accurate passer don't recruit him. A&M never learned that. Kids grow up now wanting to jack threes from the parking lot before they learn to shoot free throws. Just my opinion.

But our kids couldn't shoot threes either. They just couldn't shoot.

So you think this was time well spent by Buzz snd not just have the players or coaches police themselves? I know between buzzs book readings and watching 1200 free throws every day why he didnt have time for recruiting.
