All I've seen is glowing comments on the Bucky hire. Not one negative thing out of any basketball people. Only negative are A&M fans who can't see the big picture. A few laughing at going from Beard to Bucky. But people who know basketball love it. Coaches in the SEC are not going to enjoy having to prepare for a style that is unlike anybody else in the league.

Players love pressing. This will be a great draw in recruiting.

I've said it before. The majority of the people upset with this hire would have been upset with any hire. They live to be miserable.

When Bob Huggins switched to press Virginia for a reboot Huggins tried it became a nightmare for the Big 12 and was a huge branding boost to WVU.

I'm excited. Give him money support, and a chance.

If we gave Buzz all of that, he'd still complain and run off the talent. The talent that stayed wouldnt develop.

I'm glad to try something new with a new coach!

I'm very excited. This is similar to UF bringing in Billy Donovan. Billy D was younger but still. Hard pressing style and lots of three point shooting. The SEC didn't know what hit them in those early years.

You're rarely going to hear anything negative about coaching hires.

Melvin Watkins and Billy Kennedy were heralded as great hires and lauded by commentators on telecasts even during losing seasons.

That's not to say he won't be a solid hire, but when it comes to coaches it's all platitudes. Don't take any stock in it.

OP is spot on. No one knows for sure if this will work well or not at this stage but imo the hire was a good one . Negative posters act like they know it will fail but they don't.

The Samford PG, Rylan Jones, played at Utah State and Utah before Samford. He was a Nat 100 recruit. His coach at Utah took them to a Sweet 16. His coach at Utah State took them to the round of 32 and is now the head coach at Washington. After the news broke last night Jones tweeted that Bucky was the best coach he has played for.

I've heard this called gimmick basketball. Rick Pitino has always had various forms of a press that he uses. Rick Pitino has won a lot of basketball games shooting threes and pressing.

Barring an absolute homerun hire (Beard, etc...), I've always been a proponent of mid-major it and see what you find. Rinse-repeat after 3 years if it doesn't work. You'll eventually hit. I was even fine with the Kennedy hire, but the Parkinson's diagnosis made it difficult for us to shed him after 3 years.

As long as it wasn't Hoiberg or Moser I was likely gonna be cool with it.

But to be fair, I was over the moon on the Buzz hire. And I wanted Larry Eustachy instead of Billy Gillispie.

He could be a great find from a lower tier school like Gillespie or Oats. I'm usually pessimistic about these things, but I have a sense of optimism.

Listening to the Mean Streets podcast, I can't wait for this guy to take over. They grew up with him, played for him at the HS and college level. His dedication, intensity are going to be awesome. He will be approachable, take responsibility for his program. I think with no players left he gets to recruit all his own players. I hope he brings his coaching staff with him. Lets get after it this coming year, intense, pressure, and scoring. Welcome to Aggieland. If you haven't watched this Mean Streets podcast don't complain about Bucky you owe it to yourself to watch it from people who truly know him as a person and as a player. Gig em Class 68

Coaching makes some difference. But it's gonna come down to players. Right now he doesn't have any. Doesn't matter who the coach is next year. We could have Pop, coach K, and Pitino on the sideline but without good players we won't win anything (hot take).
Question is how much time will he be given to recruit?

I don't follow baseball, but I know a lot of our players from last year came back. How's that going with the new coach? Coaching matters a lot.

Oh man, I forgot how disappointed I was in Gillespie knowing Eustachy was being considered.

This years baseball team is not a real example of anything. It's a statistical anomaly in the history of college athletics.

The only search I didn't like was the Kennedy search because I think we could have gotten Marshall but I also thought Kennedy was an okay choice given the timing. I also get Byrne's thinking even if I didn't like it.

How about Jimbo with the highest rated recruiting class of all time? Another anomaly?

This was not my first choice, but I like the gamble to catch a rising star and see what he can do at A&M. He definitely has his career on the upswing. I was a little disappointed that his team lost in the first round of the NIT after making the NCAA tournament last year, but lets see what a bigger university and more money can do for him.

BK was the perfect fit. Dude still live here I think. Or he's been at bunch of games. He would have never left for anything.

I liked him a bunch. I watched his teams when he was In Hammond at SE Louisiana.

Re the mean streets pod: I get those guys are Bucky fanboys… but a shot of adrenaline from the coach to the fans is exactly what we need. The point that Bucky knows how to energize people about basketball in a football centric area is an interesting point.

Sorry but BK brought no excitement or energy. He was just so blah. I'm sure he is a good man but I was glad to see him replaced.

My post had nothing to do with his career here, but the process of,why Byrne hired him

Trev did his job. Beard said no so I'm excited about Bucky and the chance we hit the lottery with his hiring. Also stoked about his style. Just hope his contract isn't like Earlys.

clearly beard was the first choice for many obvious reasons but that doesn't mean it is the better choice. we shall see. but at least we went after our number 1 guy and made a more than competitive offer. to me that's important to see from the AD. a willingness to swing for the fences. bucky could turn out to be a fantastic coach and take us to the promise land or maybe not who knows. personally i wanted huss but i think this could be a sneaky good hire if we support him financially. i think his style will play well to the types of players we need to compete at the highest levels. buzz was not even attempting to get those types of players.

I'm not a baseball guy but it seems like there are a couple of factors with this year's team. One, they did lose talent from last year. Losing Ashenbeck was huge. Gavin going down as well. And the returning talent is underperforming to say the least. I guess I don't get it.

In basketball, just one or two players can make all the difference. Swap Cooper Flagg with anyone on this years roster and we make a Final Four run, regardless of the coach. Who is our most highly regarded player currently slated to be on next year's team? Talent makes all the difference. We have little talent and no depth right now. Buzz did a great job with the talent he had. Now, you can criticize him for not being able to get NBA talent to come here, but what former Aggie coach did? Elite basketball talent at A&M has been few and far between.
halfastros81

Agree on this . It was very unfortunate for him for sure and for A& M basketball. I haven't spoken to anyone that ever met the man that didn't say he is a great person.
