...Barnes being hired at Tennessee.

A veteran coach with consistent record of success at a school over more than 15 years after middling success (or lack of it) at his previous stop.

We can probably agree the McDermott failed at Iowa State before getting to Creighton.

Barnes dod not do as poorly, but was only "OK" at Clemson before coming on board at t.u.

Both had early career success at smaller programs.

Their record of consistency at Creighton and t.u. are actually quite comparable.

If we are considering Huff and Lutz - let's get their mentor and teacher, McDermott, and see if he can do for the Aggies what Barnes has done for the Volunteers.

Key difference is Rick Barnes was fired at Texas so Tennessee didn't have to pay any kind of contract buyout. That's not only not the case with McDermott but hes also in the first year of a new deal he signed last year so we can assume that buyout is high.

And that's assuming he'd even want to come here in the first place, which I doubt.

You nailed it. Why do you doubt it? What's wrong with Aggieland?

It's less that anything's wrong here and more that it's right at Creighton.

I don't really see much in the comparison here honestly. Barnes had success at Clemson. Took them to 3 NCAA appearances in 4 years. They hadn't been a few prior to his arrival and didn't go for like another 10 years after he left.

McDermott at Iowa State was just bad at a place that has seen good basketball success. Lots of coaches win there.

You mean, aside from us not really having any players on the team?

Is this a hypothetical thread? I don't see where this coach is being mentioned. Maybe that's by design, though, and I need to shut up.

Coach Cal last year after being introduced as the Arkansas Headcoach, "I talked to the team. There is no team". Great coaches in this day and age should not be afraid of a roster rebuild
