so buzz is RC slocum. a really good regular season coach who loses in the postseason when it matters most.

for the record i like buzz but i think most peoples frustration with buzz is the lack of success in the tourney.

There are plenty who think he was downright atrocious at his job. 96 wins in 4 years says otherwise

Buzz had strong post season resume when hired. Did not get same results at A&M. For many A&M basketball fans, they mostly tune in if we make the tourney and they see us in the brackets. So I agree with you for the most part.

Many others didn't like him because he reads books. Ok, a joke overstatement, but they just simply don't like his personality and all the different things he focuses on other than just basketball wins and losses for A&M.

If you don't make the second weekend of the tournament you are a failure. BK did it 2 times, more than any A&M coach ever. If that doesn't solidify you as the goat A&M coach I don't know what to tell you.

Great analogy and so true. There is a reason coaches get run out of town at good programs, lack of tourney success. Another thing that is frustrating is that he never signed a shooter to go with guys like Taylor. Instead, he signed another guard in Phelps that was a mirror image of Taylor. Add in the fact that it took almost the full season to utilize Payne as well.

Whatever it is you tried to tell me I wouldn't listen to, so don't worry.

BK was below .500 in conference (66-78) . He inherited a program that had been to 6 consecutive NCAA tournaments. He played in an SEC much weaker than the current conference.

Those two S16 appearances are papering over a lot of cracks in his resume. I don't hate BK, but imo he is a distant 4th when ranking our last 4 coaches.

BK's legacy is built on the greatest and most improbable comeback in the history of the tournament. He was severely out coached in that game 39:00 minutes against a lesser team that was not near as talented as we were. It's funny how one fluke of 1/10,000 chance changes perception.

BK was a mediocre coach, who did less with more.

Phelps was a mirror image of Boots, not Taylor. And the Taylor Boots combo was proven success.

The only thing Phelps, Boots, and Taylor really have in common is that none of them can shoot the ball at a high percentage from anywhere on the floor.

11-7 for Buzz this year was really close to 8-10. We have a 30% 3 ball team, yet Phelps, Manny and Wade
all hit one at the buzzer to win an SEC game...to their credit. Or you could say 9-9 if we don't blow a 22 point lead vs. t.u.

Good coaches win close games is what you are trying to say right?

Did not try, Said what I said. When you don't have an offense, a team that can shoot the 3 ball or make free throws, you are very fortunate to make a 3 ball buzzer beater.

Luck or not, got the job done. All the counter arguments aren't going to change the win/loss column.

Well we are about to be 4-8 so

Buzz was very solid here and 5th in wins over that timespan feels right.

Thing is though you have teams like Florida, Arkansas and now Ole Miss with Beard who were probably going to pass us up over the next 4 years if we kept the status quo. And that's assuming Buzz would be able to assemble a core of players at the level we had the last 3-4 years.

More evidence that Aggies don't know basketball

I don't think many reasonable people would say we haven't been a pretty good team these past 4 years, as far as wins and losses and beating many good teams.

But in basketball, real success is measured by what you do in the tourney.

Football is the same now, since the playoff format has been extended, even though its only 12 teams. Even at that pretty select group, it's becoming apparent that decent bowl season without playoff is just NOT going to cut it. You need to make the playoffs.

In basketball, with 64 teams, even THAT is not enough. You need to expect Sweet 16s fairly often..

Football or Basketball (and Baseball Super Regionals) are all the same at programs with $$. You better be competing in the final 16 or you're gone

In that regard, Buzz's teams have NOT gotten it done.
