What it would have taken, plain and simple, is the team making the second weekend and justifying an increase for the staff and increased NIL funding. We didn't make the second weekend and we weren't going to pay more for 6 years of making the second round twice and the second weekend zero times. If leadership thought he was the guy to take us that far somewhat regularly they would have invested more in the program.

When I learned that he had gum stacked on scorers table I knew he had to go…

Just kind of a creepy dude.

Quirky. Disjointed. Asburgerish…

I like Buzz and wish he would have stayed.

But, he is a bit tiring, and I'm not that upset he's gone... particularly if he didn't want to be here.

Frankly, with a experience laden team this was the year to shine, and we didn't. It's a rebuild next year.

Besides, analytics says you reach your peak in coaching at a place within the 1st six seasons, and this would be season 7 here for Buzz.

Ultimately, it's best for both of us Buzz moves on.

Buzz was leaving no matter what. It what he does. He did it before us and he'll do it after us.

As for how we could have kept him? Do not keep a guy who doesn't want to be here.

Much better odds he gets canned at Maryland than him leaving for somewhere else.

Had one year left on his contract and we weren't going to extend him. Didn't see eye to eye with the AD and didn't want to rebuild. The writing was on the wall; it was an impasse.

He was given extension last year. He wanted another one

To clarify, he was given an extension before the 2023-24 season.

Thanks for the real info at the end of the 24-25 season how many years were left , do you know if MD had to pay us for taking him ?

He was extended though the 2027-2028 season.

You have two buyout in most contracts. The school side and the coaches side. So, Buzz would have a buyout on his side for leaving to take a job at another school. I don't know what Buzz exact number is, but it is less than what we would have owed him if we fired him.

Technically, the coach pays the buyout. So in this case, the buyout amount will be covered by MD in their contract with him where they are basically reimbursing him for the buyout.

Hope that makes sense.
