What makes the elite college coach?

Many have a Shady element but also seem very intolerant to failure at any level. They don't seem all warm and fuzzy with players, but there is a respect for those that get the job done.
What's missing that we can't over pay for the correct guy?
Most of them can win whether the arena is packed or not. They aren't using magic plays. Frustrating.
