George Mason HC might be an intriguing "Todd Golden-level" option. He did play at George Mason, so who knows if he'd want to leave, but if there is a young, under-the-radar group of coaches that could maybe pop at a bigger program, he could be on that list.

Assuming he doesn't get the Maryland job.

Think he played at Blinn too.

He'd be down the list for me because he just doesn't have much experience but definitely worth keeping an eye on.

I like coach skinn…and he looks like he could still play today:

Yep, played at Blinn, was an assistant at La Tech (not that it really matters, but at least he would be familiar with the area, in a general sense).

He'd be down my list too, but fits somewhat the profile of who I'd prefer we go after. I'd rather have him than a washed up re-tread like Forbes or Hoiberg (which I'm fearful that we will hire).

Early on the baseball side is the extreme example (and in hindsight we probably hired him for the wrong reasons), but at least Trev has shown he will hire young.

With a name like that, could rally bewbs find their way to basketball too?

If we retread it should be Gregg Marshall. That guy was a great coach and if not for a few bad calls Wichita st would've played for a title.

Hell yeah, who cares about abusing a few players.

One player and they had to pay him 7.75mm to leave. I think he's served his time. His final four reunion they all loved him. Only one player and pretty sure nothing was proved.
No doubt that guy is a great coach.
If you want a great guy who is better Greg McDermott should be the first call.

Obviously he's a great coach, that's why I wanted him when we hired Kennedy instead, but he is a loose cannon. Maybe he didn't actually punch a player but he was still overall bad enough that Wichita State thought the situation was untenable and nobody has touched him in almost five years since.

Back to the OP, it would be wild if this is the choice for Maryland. That would probably speak to their financial situation a bit.

Yes that was a big fail on our part. Never wanted BK he was not good. Hell Marshall may not want to coach again but there are plenty of guys older coaching who have had issues. Pitino Calipari Sampson,
If buzz leaves he should be in the call list but also the first call should be Greg McDermott a great guy and coach!

McDermott has turned down much better jobs than ours. Doesn't mean you don't give him a call but I'd consider it pretty unlikely.

That's also if you can convince yourself that his time at Iowa State was some kind of anomaly. He's the only coach since the 70's never to get them to the NCAA Tournament and every coach since him has at least gotten them a five seed or better multiple times and to the Sweet 16 at least once. (Hoiberg had 3 seed seasons in '14 and '15, Prohm had a 4 seed in 16 and a 5 seed in 17, and Otzelberger had a two seed last year and a three this year.)

I'd make the call at least make him turn you down. He list a lot of players as well.

My Creighton friends (here in Omaha) would never forgive A&M if we took McDermott.

While he is a very good coach, I think he would immediately resent the lack of Basketball focus at A&M and resent the exhausted paranoid BAS fanbase and fierce cut throat competition of the SEC.

All true but they still should call him.
