Trev Albert is an issue. A fiscal hawk who coaches get tired of dealing with.
I mean I think you have to be in today's college landscape. We have been reckless with spending for a long time. Spending on some things have to be tight. I think Buzz got butthurt that one of his staff members were let go when the athletic department did their layoffs. Buzz carries a large staff though.

Kevin Willard wanted to stay an extra night when they played in NY to show the team NYC. The extra night stay got squashed by the athletic department and that really pissed Williard off. Buzz is going to deal with it at Maryland too.

Maryland is technically better because it's the only sport they care about.

A&M is attractive mostly because the SEC has now finally started to become a basketball confrence. But Maryland hoops has a lot of parallels to A&M football. With all the NY/DC funds that program gets, never could quite turn the corner.

How many better jobs are out there that can claim to be better than the Terrapins HC?

Yeah, people need to stop thinking that this means anything about us or about Maryland. That job is better than ours but that has little to do with this situation.

This is about Buzz doing his Buzz thing. I think he'd basically take any job out there willing to pay him close to what we're paying him even if it's a job worse than ours.

I had heard there were feelers between him and Arizona State before they decided to run it back with Hurley one more time.

Yeah, he just wants something new and ti reset his contract.

My guess is he wants to go through his entire career without ever getting fired so he can be a statistical anomaly

Coaches come here because of the hefty raise they receive. They leave because of the terrible culture here. Get rid of the good ol' boy network and the incompetent, arrogant, leaders that run A&M
Buzz is just trying to avoid getting fired here like he would.

Zero chance he gets fired.

Maryland is a basketball school. Basketball coaches want to coach places where basketball is a priority. Basketball might even be 3rd fiddle to baseball here.

Maryland averaged higher attendance than the capacity of Reed Arena. We had empty seats for #1 Auburn at home.

Not saying I think it's a good fit or he wasn't well compensated here, but there's a reason that the coaches that have continued aspects of success at A&M get attention from other school and then leave.

Well if football is priority then we are pretty damn lousy at that.

Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News said he considers Maryland a top 15 job in college basketball.

Is A&M a top 40 job? I don't think it's top 30.

A supposed basketball school that hasn't been to the final four in 23 years is a top 15 program? And their current coach left due to lack of support and no NIL money?

I don't who this Mike guy is but his opinion seems invalid.

Maryland has no AD. What coach wants to step into that?

Has anyone got any concrete info (other than BS posts by on chat boards or by podcasters) that Maryland is even interested in Buzz?

Look at the other thread, a Maryland writer said Buzz is in the conversation but most likely not going to be the guy. Maryland fans don't want him either. The source said the noise is coming from Buzz's side which makes it all the more humorous and embarrassing for Buzz and us…

Access to better players.

Like it or not, the best HS players dont want to come to TAMU where all they hear, see, and feel the hatred towards Longhorn football. Players dont want to do Saw it Offf after beating Sam Houston State or Louisiana Monroe. They dont wanna see fans doing horns down 24/7 every where and 12th Man this and 12th Man that and all that tradition stuff.

Players wanna ball, hoop, chill, NIL ,and get to the League. Thats it. All that Aggie network and campus spirit and great facilities stuff means nothing.

Look at Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida..and now Ole Miss BB programs. They disassociate themselves with anything football and concentrate on hoops. Hoops, hoops, hoops. Hell look at Houston. They dont get players through resources. They get players by understanding what they want in a program. Sampson gets it. He always has. They get what the good players want. TAMU doesn't. Simple as that.

And you wonder why TAMU cant get any decent 3 point shooters. I'll give you a hint : they dont wanna come to TAMU.

Not hard to understand why Buzz is looking to move to Maryland.

Buzz will have a history of leaving every 4-6 years if he goes to Maryland.

IMO, he either wears out his welcome or gets bored at staying at one place too long....or both.

Most of the best players on fellow SEC rosters are 23 year olds collecting their last meaningful paychecks in the sport. There's a reason why a guy is the same as Anthony Edwards playing children's basketball; they're not getting to the league. And life in the G league is going to humble a lot of these guys because its a hefty paycut AND a massive lifestyle cut. Most of them would actually benefit from the Aggie network.

My point is I want to see an NBA offense and true talent developer here. Someone who can take a mid ~80s high school prospect or even low end 4 star/high end 3 star prospect and make them into a late first round pick in 2-3 years. That's where we can differentiate ourselves from the "transfer here and collect one big lump sum" programs that all these SEC teams are.

You'd think other countries all over the world would develop leagues decades ago that paid well too. They'd probably have to promulgate rules about how many foreign (US) players could be on a team making the most $. Go figure.
