It really would depend on where he left to coach. If he leaves for a Blue Blood, we can't really fault the AD unless we were playing with pennies and got outbid or Buzz felt ignored. If he leaves for a lateral slot, that indicates that Buzz is not happy here and wanted something similar and took it to leave. That seems like a black eye on the program and falls squarely at the ADs feet.
I don't see anything we can do if Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Indiana come calling. They are noticably better basketball programs/fanbases and you are usually going to lose those battles unless something is really extraordinary here. And there isn't.
Ironically, I think a new arena, guaranteed NIL money and some heavy investment in marketing $ being spent by an outside firm would be extraordinary. Remains to be seen if we are willing to do that. I do think we go mid major on coaching hire if he leaves, bc the sentence above would be required to get an established Power 5 coach.

LSU is a better situation for a basketball coach, IMO. LSU has more history (4 FFs, 24 tourney appearances, ranked more than twice as much as A&M), more local fans to draw from (900k vs. 350k), about the same fanbase (hot when they are winning), and I suspect always pay more for their athletes. I don't get why everyone is convinced Will Wade is good. He's like the Hugh Freeze of basketball. He had one good team when everyone knows he was cheating, and now some good results at a lower level school and some people are convinced he's brilliant.
His philosophy to me is he wans to out-talent teams. I'm gong to beat you by having the more talented team. And nothing wrong with that at all. I don't know you can do that at A&M in this SEC in the NIL world. Now maybe he is able to drum up a lot more NIL moneybobinator said:

Yeah that's my issue. The same as Freeze. They were able to out talent people when they were cheating, the data that they can put together that kind of roster in this new era isn't there yet.
But Wade's LSU teams played like punks. I don't know how anyone could have watched those teams play and think they definitely want that.
Maybe he's brilliant, some school is going to talk themselves into it and maybe it works, and if we missed on a few other people first maybe it's worth the dice roll, but I just don't get the love some people seem to have. It's not like he has Pearl or Sampson's track record.

Pitino wins everywhere he goes, but he also tends to leave a trail of forfeits behind him too.
I doubt Buzz leaves, but if he does there's got to be younger coaches who would be interested that win a lot but don't have the Pitino baggage. I actually like Pitino, I just think he leaves a stench of illicitness on everything he touches.

The idea that we would or could get Pitino isn't worth wasting brain cells thinking about
Hopefully Will Wade as A&M head coach would be similar to the brief Billy Kennedy-Rick Stansbury team up at its peak but its hard to have greater expectations.
