it is hard to believe any excuses can be made for not supporting your number 7 ranked men's basketball team. this ain't water polo its men's basketball. we have 70k students. i don't know what needs to be done but it is sad this is an ongoing conversation. selling out any of the big three men's sports on a regular basis shouldn't be a problem especially if those teams are ranked in the top 10.
There is no excuse for 660k former students and 268k metropolitan area residents blaming the students for lack of support since we are in the subject of pointing fingers.

I say start selling $1 beer (per 12 oz cup) and you'd start having all sorts of people show up. Doubt they want to do that because it's all about making a profit and they'd worry about people getting outta hand.

As a current student who has rarely missed a home game, it's really not that hard. Just show up to the games. All this lowering the bar stuff isn't necessary. My fellow students just needa do better.

Sell students a $2 dollar meal 30 mins before game and have $1 beers at half, limit 2

Get rid of some of the awesome distractions that are more interesting than basketball games.

Cheap food, cheap drinks, cheap transportation, and lotsa and lotsa HOT girls - everywhere!

A Final Four run would help as well, but can't have everything.

By the time they figure it out, it'll be too late! Bamboozled again!
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

are you trying to compare the support of Former students to current? this is like apples and oranges. a former student who lives hours away, has a family,a job, you know adult responsibility should show up as often as students who live on campus. that is a ridiculous statement.

i will be there on saturday vs Tennessee so i will be doing my part.

No current student owes you attendance. Or all of the related people (local residents, former student, current students) are in the same hook. Usually former students have more resources after all…

It doesnt cost the students anything to attend so what does resources have to do with it?

Once everyone accepts that there will always be some games with low attendance that you dont expect, the root cause is the Athletic Department not putting any effort into creating a system that prevents issues with the games that have large attendance.

They clearly feel that it is not worth the effort for a handful of games, even though its a self-fullfilling prophecy if they never create the system. Its hard to build a culture when the AD doesnt do their side of things.

IF Buzz can find a way to keep the momentum going once Wade graduates AND the AD does something, we have a real chance to keep building on the last few years of success.
You would finally have incoming freshman joining a student sports culture where all the class years ahead of them have experienced nothing but good basketball, and potentially passing down that culture to them.
But only if the AD can find a way to improve the process

  • Some way for students to indicate that they plan to attend a game (an opt-in ability say a week before the game)

When Reed first opened you pulled tickets. And that was when nobody went to the games. Sure you could always walk up and get tickets

Yeah, having to physically do it was weird, but surely there's an app-based solution now.

If we can use the 12th Man Mobile app to submit photos to include on the in-game processed cheese spread ad then surely we can figure this out.

Not a throw in the towel kind of person but this sure is disappointing. I'd give anything to have the opportunity again to make as many sporting events as possible similar to when I was a student. I make sure my son gets his butt to the games so he doesn't look back on his time at A&M and kick himself for missing these opportunities. I wish these kids knew how fortunate they are to have a top 10 team to watch this season. I had the end of Tony Barone (RIP) and Melvin Watkins to watch. I still sometimes hear Melvin screaming at Jessie King in an empty Reed Arena.

They are switching to online ticket pull for football, so do the same for basketball.

Marc you gotta read the threads man, that's exactly what I said a page ago, lol.

If they can figure out an online pull for football they can tack on some kind of solution for basketball.

There just has to be a way to get some kind of gauge for how many students are coming to a game and then we can start collecting the data. If we start showing that a fairly reliable 85% percent of people who opt in are going to actually show up, then we know to increase the number of people who "win" tickets or whatever.

Do we think students will show up and sell out their seats completely this weekend? I know the opponent is better but game is still at 11 am and weather for students walking over from main campus is potentially worse in the morning than last week.

I want the blackout to be completely full but I can see the excuses coming already
