Andy creating offense from the post

Aside from Solo's energy creating a spark, the added wrinkle of running some offense through Andy after the half generated a lot of the points in that run. I can't remember a time when he has been as involved in the flow of the offense as he was tonight in the second half. Some of those dimes were highlight reel stuff.

Helped that Georgia decided to run an awful zone defense there for a big chunk of that half. Any time our offense is looking THAT good it's time to change your defense.

But that's gotta be something we've been working on. There's been a lot more moving the ball through the high post the last three games. Not just with Garcia but Payne also. Need to keep working it because it's been a nice wrinkle for us.

Loved the no look passes by Andy. Georgia had no idea.

Talked about the same thing with friends. We came out of the half and deliberately go the ball to Andy going right at Newell and then guys cutting to the hoop for him to dish. It's not something I feel like I've seen us do, but it got things going and we were off to the races.

They actually looked like a traditionally good team at times. I don't mind the grind but some entertainment doesn't hurt.

That was a vintage 2003 vintage Scott Drew zone. Only a Melvin Watkins team would struggle to score against that.

Coach said post the Missouri game that Garcia was the best decision maker.

. Given the turnovers in the first half had made sense to put the ball in his hands.

And it worked

That zone was so soft we probably could have run Taylor in there for an uncontested touch at the FT line, a shot only Alabama would turn down.

Andy is the only player I've considered buying their jersey. The rest are talented but his heart is next level.

I tried to get my wife to let me call her new Poodle puppy Andy Garcia.

I think Andy had 6 assists and every one of them was absolutely beautiful.

Running the high post offense thru Andy was definitely a new twist they were working on yesterday and it worked well. Could come in handy down the stretch.

It would work even better if Manny could sometimes do what Garcia was doing last night, he just doesn't move the ball quick enough. But that's been open all season, especially recently as Payne has been more reliable, if we could have someone flash into the high post and then quickly move the ball.

We're maybe starting to find something on offense though. Teams have to commit bodies to Payne, they have to commit someone to Taylor, and they have to respect Phelps' ability to attack the basket, so there's (finally) space there for the taking, we just have to move the ball a bit quicker.

Especially in games where the officials are going to let defenses put their hands on our guards and bump guys off of screens. If they're going to commit bodies up 25 feet from the basket then there's going to space in behind that.

Need Solo to make some of those kinds of passes too because he could be a terror in the high post.

Solo could be good at it imo. Not nearly as sure about Manny because I'm not sure it's part of his psyche and also he has less length to see over and pass over the defense .

I have always felt like Solo was underdeveloped on the offensive side. He shows flashes repeatedly but they have never made it a core attack approach. He was really good yesterday and we have seen it before . I always presumed it was because they want him expending his energy defending ridiculously effectively but with our depth it seems like an option to explore.

I saw an article that said the Georgia bench was relentless when he shot a 3 pt air ball and that fired him up. Maybe that's the answer , hire a top flight heckler to sit behind the opponents bench to trash talk on Solo.

Garcia was a different guy last night… the passes that he made and his court vision were on another level.

It seemed liked it wasn't JUST Andy doing something on his own, but the rest of the team bringing him in…

Seems like they have been working on some set plays from high post and sidelines and we just got to see them…

First no look pass… "Wow?! Nice pass Andy!"
Second time… "Whoa?! Again? Awesome"
Third time… "ok… wait a minute… what's happening?"

He also shoots like he learned to shoot in a gym with a 7 foot tall ceiling. His shot is absolutely wild and has absolutely no consistency to it.

Sloan's shot famously had a little hitch in it but he's Steph Curry compared to Solo.

Agree. There's no question Solo is an inconsistent shooter .

I really like Andy, but Solo is my fave player. We should just call him the Black Hole because nothing gets by him. I love watching Solo play defense, he reminds me a lot of Dominique Kirk on his ability to lockdown his player.

I would have a hard time selecting one favorite player on our team.
I basically like all of them, and for different reasons and how they contribute.
With only a couple of misses in the Buzz era, I think Buzz and the staff do recruit
good people and good teammates.....and most add some skills to the mix. A few
are really skilled.

Being old and old school, I also like it when our players embrace our University
and become really good Texas Aggies! We have some excellent examples of that with our current team!
