It's will be hard as hell to earn (and I don't expect us to pull it off), but we still have 3 top 5 teams on our schedule. We absolutely have the opportunity to play our way to a 1 seed. We're just talking hypotheticals here, but Texas Tech and Purdue have both climbed to top 8 in Net Ranking. Add 3 top 5 wins and that resume is freaking dynamite.
Me, I'm hoping for Ws against Georgia, Arkansas, @Miss St, Vanderbilt, and @LSU. That's definitely a 3 seed and could be a 2 seed. Beat Tennessee at home (imo our best chance to land a top 5 win) and we're definitely a 2 seed.
@Florida and Auburn... I want to win one but those teams are so freaking good.

No they're not. Sweet 16 matchup is more manageable playing against a 4 or 5 as opposed to a likely 3 seed.
I understand how the process works. I wasn't talking so much about the mechanics of how it would happen, but rather just saying that selfishly I hope it works out that we are in Denver for the first two rounds.fightintxag13 said:
That's not how the sites work. They're assigned based on proximity of the top seeded teams. While being a 3 seed would likely send us to Denver instead of Wichita, it's not a guarantee that one or two of the 3 seeds will be in Denver just because they're 3 seeds.

Meh. The 4/5 teams are quite often teams like last year's Alabama. 1997 Arizona. When you get to the 2nd weekend, seeds don't matter. You either play your best or you go home.

Can you imagine the sheer anxiety of having this team as a 1 seed during Rd 2?
I probably won't sleep tonight even thinking about it.

We would be the overall #1 seed if we won all of our remaining regular season games.halfastros81 said:
Win all remaining reg season games and there should be no question the Ags are a 1 seed. Easier said than done of course . It might even be possible if we lost only one and maybe even 2 remaining reg season losses. Nothing happens in a vacuum.
Teams do not get to submit a preference. If Iowa State were a protected (top 4 seed), they would be in Milwaukee (305ish miles?) as first destination and Wichita (355 miles) as second destination so you have it correct here.bobinator said:
The main thing in our favor is that most of the other high seeds have closer locations anyway.
Let's say things finish with the current Torvik projection: (parentheses would be their next closest), usingstrikethroughsto show preference but that preference is full
1 - Auburn - Lexington (Raleigh)
2 - Duke - Raleigh (Lexington)
3 - Alabama - Lexington (Raleigh)
4 - Tennessee - Raleigh (Lexington)
5 - Houston - Wichita (Denver)
6 - Purdue - Milwaukee (Cleveland)
7 - Texas Tech - Wichita (Denver)
8 - Arizona - Denver (Wichita)
9 - Texas A&M -Wichita,Denver (Lexington)
10 - Iowa State - Milwaukee (Wichita)
11 - Kansas -Wichita, Denver (Milwaukee)
12 - Illinois -Milwaukee, Lexington,Cleveland (Wichita)
13 - Wisconsin -Milwaukee, Cleveland, Lexington, Wichita, Raleigh, Denver,Providence (Seattle)
14 - Michigan State -Milwaukee, Cleveland, Lexington, Raleigh,Providence (Wichita)
15 - Kentucky -Raleigh, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Wichita, Providence, Denver,Seattle
16 - Michigan -Cleveland, Milwaukee, Lexington, Providence, Raleigh, Wichita, Denver,Seattle
Key is we have to be seeded ahead of at least one of Houston, Texas Tech and Kansas and not fall too far down the seed line where we're getting bumped by other teams from up north to Seattle.
Edit: Iowa State is kind of a wildcard. I don't know that I've ever gotten a definitive answer on whether schools get to submit a preference or something. Milwaukee is closer, but I imagine they'd rather play in Wichita.
Edit 2: accidentally sent Kansas to Denver instead of Cleveland, will fix
Wichita has one of the fewest remaining number of all-session tickets of any site. As we get closer if it becomes more clear that's where the Ags are heading, it might be worth trying to purchase all-session in advance instead of the team allotment.Charlie Moran said:
As a Wichitan I would be stoked to have them here for round 1 ( I already have my tickets )

Eh, they got to play in Birmingham as a 9 seed a couple of years ago because they were the 9 in Houston's bracket. (Alabama was also a 1 that year and got to play in Birmingham)
Just the way these things go.
