These will update throughout the day, generally a close win over a winless conference team won't move the needle much but with the carnage around us yesterday it may go up more than expected.

Just a primer- there are generally 6 computer metrics that make up your tournament profile. And then you add in things like record vs quad 1, non conf record, wins away from your home court etc. But a lot of bracketology at this point of the season is just a math equation.

There are 3 resume indexes
KPI - Key Performance Indicator - gives you "points" for good wins, subtracts for bad losses
SOR - Strength of Record
WAB - Wins Above Bubble - how many more wins do you have than a team at the bubble line would be expected to have

There are also 3 predictive metrics that measure beyond wins and losses how good you actually are. Offensive and defensive efficiency, scoring margin, fg made% etc. weigh into these metrics

BPI - basketball power index
KP - KenPom
TRank- Bart Torvik rating system

I'll track in this thread how our numbers fluctuate over the next month

Going into Saturday night 2/1

KPI 9
SOR 12
WAB 7

BPI 17
KP 16
T Rank 19

On 2/2

KPI 9 > 5
SOR 12 -> 6
WAB 7 > 4

BPI 17 -> 15
KP 16 > 14
T Rank 19 -> 18

So the resume ranks of a 2 seed, the predictive of a 4 seed… so all of the bracketology you will see this week will have A&M as a 3 seed

How did our WAB get smaller?

Talk to me about UH … feels like they are a team when I watch with my eyes, it's the same UH, hyper-elite, 1-seed material. And all their predictive metrics back that up.

But there are other metrics that don't. Still a long way to go in the season, but do they feel like a team that, on Selection Sunday, could be a seed line (or even 2) lower than the public would think, depending on which metrics the committee leans on this year? And I'm talking potential 1 seed vs one of the last 3 seeds.

Or maybe they are elite enough in the metrics that matter to cover up the others.

Houston is an interesting case of what is probably an elite team that just hasn't had the opportunity with their schedule to rack up elite wins. Or it could be that they have really inflated numbers by playing a relatively trash schedule.

Michigan State is also in the same bucket but less extreme.

This will fix itself in the next month as the Houston schedule is back loaded and they will be able to play their way into a lock for a 1 or …not.

It was good to see them lose last night imo. If they are unable to win games like that they will slide down seed lines fast (see Michigan state today sliding from a 2 to a 4 on most boards)

The heavy SEC presence will play into some seed lines this year as well. Someone is going to be moved around to space out the no conf rematch in the first two rounds rule. There are only 16 games and they'll have to spread out 13 teams.

There can be exceptions to that rule if there are more than 9 teams from one conference. But it's going to be a chore.

High quality post and information. Thanks for doing this. Really looking to following it the next few weeks

Ya I saw a tweet during the week of the Big Ten standings with all of Sparty's 9 wins circled. I think like the only one in the top half was Illinois.
