Fouling us is a way to win. Not hard to figure out the game plan.

Anyone who thinks fouling us is a good idea can't do math

Not early. No. But late in the game. Yes. I would foul us on purpose.

Bob points it out a lot but why would you purposefully give one of the worst shooting teams in the country a free throw. I don't care how bad we shoot it it's still dumb math.

We shoot 69% from the FT line. Assuming we are in the double bonus, we would average just under 1.4 points every time we go to the line. In 1-1 it would be 1.17 points. Teams would die to average that many points per possession. It shows why getting to the line is a way more important stat than free throw percentage over the course of a season.

The FT% is frustrating but it is way less important than shooting % from the field. We are 10% worse than OU that is the best team in the conference. If we shoot 30 FT in the game, that is a 3 point difference. In other words, offset by a single extra made 3.

This is true, but when you miss 20 in a game and lose by one, it's pretty obvious what lost the game. Or not get to the FT line at all and lose by one when you rely on them for points.

Even in the Alabama game, as bad as we shot from the line, our trips to the line were still better than our shots from the field.

We shot 58% from the stripe, so every trip you're getting just a shade under 1.2 points.

On our two point shots we shot 44%, so that's .88 points per attempt and we shot 22% from 3 so that's .66 points per attempt.

So again, we're not good at free throws, but fouling us is still an awful strategy because we're terrible at shooting from the field.

was part of our last minute and half defense last night to foul? Sure seemed like we did that to prevent them from shooting the 3

Did they ask about that in the postgame? It sure looked like it was on purpose

Every team loses games because they go cold shooting. The best shooting three point teams go cold from the arc, jump shooters are off, etc.

I get it that the FT line should be easy to make every time and it gets frustrating but the tu loss was due to more than free throw shooting. What frustrated me was the defensive breakdowns in the second half which is one area where you should never go cold. It is all about effort and executing the game plan and our team didn't do it. That said, it is our defense that gets me excited about the potential of this team. The tu game was an aberration.

ETA the other thing I love about this team is their ability to crash the glass. They have had a few gaps in that area this year but not many and last night was an unbelievable performance on both ends.
