"Yes sir," Buzz Williams when asked a simple question about why he didn't play Manny Obaseki much in the second half. I could do the same after a tough loss, but I will still give you a preview.
Saturday's game was inexcusable and an absolute disaster from the coaching staff and the players to let that game slip away in the manner that they did. However, we all woke up the next day and as the anger and frustration still remained, our rankings stayed the same. In fact our NET is actually improved. We are still a consensus 4 seed. There are still 11 sec games to be played and 7 weeks till the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament.
College basketball is not a sprint, it's a marathon. We have set ourselves up with a great ranking with lots of room for error. That's the benefit of playing a tough non conference schedule. We are still fighting for a high seed, top 3 even. We all want to see us go on a run and put a string of wins together. It starts now. Comfortably beat this OU team that's struggled in SEC play. A team we beat at their place without Wade Taylor.
We all know what happened last game against Oklahoma, but for those who are tuning into basketball for the first time because they need something to be angry at. We came out flat against a team who had a bench player in Brycen Goodine go 9-11 from 3 against us scoring 34 points. But we answered back with Zhuric Phelps scoring 34 of his own with 6 threes and a late clutch basket to secure the win.
This time having Wade Taylor will make a huge difference. However, Soloman Washington questionable and he was very pivotal in that first matchup slowing down OU's lottery pick Jeremiah Fears. OU relies on Fears as well as forward Jalon Moore on the offensive end. They don't have a strong presence inside, but it's to be determined if Payne sees a lot of time, in a matchup he could exploit. Last game against them Payne played 20 minutes and Coleman only 14. Not having Solo changes a lot. OU wants to go fast and will be more than willing to allow us to attack from outside. But I really want to see us be physical and score in the paint as well.
How about we start our annual Buzz conference tear now! Let's bounce back after Saturday's disaster, and let's get this win at home, before we hit the road to take on South Carolina and Mizzou, then it's 4 of 5 in Reed Arena to close out the month of February. Let this be the starting point of our great run!
Edit to add that we will be wearing white and pink uniforms today in honor of breast cancer awareness, if I see one person mad about wearing pink I will go beat you up
