I absolutely bet their fans expect they'll lose certain games. It's not like we're all on the team. I'm sure the team expects to win every game.

You are absolutely correct as usual sir.

I honestly think the overwhelming majority of our fan base only follows college football. The percent of the fan base that watches a non A&M, non SEC regular season college basketball has got to be less <5%? <1%?

Imagine ASSUMING wins against two top 10 teams (one on the road in one of the toughest places to play), WITHOUT your leading scorer.

We win both of those games if Wade is healthy.

We all knew. It happens every year. Those of us that are actually into college hoops know that losses come with the territory. I'd say we just lost 2 games that were expected losses even for a top seed, especially down your all American.

Both were winnable and we were missing our most experienced player. But the team only really let up against Kentucky when they ran out of gas in the second half.

That is actually my #1 concern with this team. Through the first 17 games, they have played so hard, so fast, and they've found a way to grind out wins. Will they have enough gas in the tank for the final 14 games, plus the SECT, plus the NCAAs? I hope their legs aren't completely given out by the time March gets here.

I think it's fair to be aware of how well we played in non-conference, how we are still competing without Wade... but also how under Buzz this team has a tendency to make things really tough on themselves. Every game is a grind, every game is a rock fight.

Are there reasons for bumps in the road? There always are. In this case the absence of Wade is a big one. But it doesn't change that there is a very real chance our "best team under Buzz" could start conference play 2-5 and fall out of the rankings with a week left before the calendar flips to February.

Is it worst case scenario? Sure. But it's also not all that out of the realm of possibility. We'll be underdogs @OleMiss, and slight favorites at best @Texas. Taking care of business on Saturday is not necessarily critical to this team's tournament chances, but it's critical to what kind of seeding the team gets and what kind of support it gets the rest of the season.

Simply put - there's a very good reason we haven't won the last two games. Every team that struggles has a reason for it. But whatever the reason, if Buzz can't find a way to keep this team ranked and we instead shift back to "Buzz teams really thrive come tournament time" then there's absolutely a reason for people to start voicing concern.

For all of Billy Kennedy's faults, when he finally got his best, most experienced team together he won a conference title en route to a 3-seed.

This is Buzz best, most experienced team. A conference title in this stacked conference isn't necessary, but we can't find ourselves unranked before the first month of conference play completes.

It's never good in any sport to have expected losses. Totally wrong frame of mind if you consider your team to be a top team. Hope that's not the team's mindset. Losses happen. They should never be expected or accepted.

On the road against Top 15 (25?) teams in college basketball are considered expected losses for pretty much everyone, even the very best teams. Winning on the road against good teams is really really hard.

Tell that to Beard

Do you mean that Coach Beard thinks it's easy to win on the road against a good team?

And we won… on the road… without our best player at OU. And we won… on the road … on a not-so neutral court against Tech.

Losing sucks, still a fan even when my team doesn't end the game with the higher score.

I'm old enough to remember beating Texas by 20 this season.

These posts seem more appropriate if we lose at home to LSU on Saturday.

If you like doing the whole who beat who game, Beard also lost to a Purdue team that we beat with his full roster.

We cannot guard the perimeter. That makes for a quick out in the tourney. And we still shoot free throws like a home school junior high team. C'mon Buzz. Get to work.
This shouldn't be surprising for a team that boasts the best defensive rebounding% in the league. To get that superior defensive rebounding number you have to be sagging on your perimeter defense leading for more perimeter points for the opposing teams.

We have the best offensive rebounding % in the nation.

We are a below average defensive rebounding team.

EDIT: I guess we are an average defensive rebounding team? - we rank 151st.

It was clear Kentucky knew the type of board-crashers we were on offense and kudos to their guys for putting in the work.

I like our guys and I like our guys hustle. But if you take Kentucky's athleticism and add that same hustle to it, it neutralizes much of our OREB game.

I think this is also partially a downstream effect of not having Taylor. Not completely obviously, but when you take the 13 shots or so that Taylor shoots a game and give them to worse shooters their shots come off the basket in unpredictable ways that make them harder to rebound. I think Hefner, Lee and Solo all hit the side of the backboard last night.

Like I said, that's not all of it, but when you're talking a handful of possessions a game that we don't get, it makes a big difference when we're trying to play on the margins anyway.

Defensively, Payne just has to be better. He has six defensive rebounds in our last three games. He should be putting up Robert Williams type numbers.
Proposition Joe

I will agree it's very difficult to position for Hefner's patented baseline falling out of bounds behind the backboard 3-pointer.

Impossible for the other team to defend as well. Good thing for them he has no prayer of ever making it.

This statement is factually untrue for the teams we aspire to be like and hopefully the team we aspire to be by the end of the season. I guarantee the teams ahead of us in the rankings do not expect to lose any games on the road no matter who they play. And that is who we aspire to be by the end of the season. Losses happen and that's ok. You just should never expect to lose.

We are fans. We aren't playing the games. When we see a road game against a top 10 te on the s he file we can look at it and say that's probably a loss, especially without our best player

It's not being anything but realistic

It's basketball and losses happen, even to the best teams, even more so when playing really good teams on the road

How is this team any different than any Buzz team.

It's better. The fanbase has not improved similarly however, at least on the internet.
