Have gotten rediculous. Too many TO's given and the refs spend what seems to be hours resetting the clock. Completely kills the vibe

It also takes hours because of all the fouling.

They should implement a new rule to prevent all the stupid fouls at the end of the games. Give the hooter 4 shots

I've said for years you should be able to decline the free throws and take an uncontested inbound in the backcourt.

Elam Ending:

The Elam Ending is a basketball rule format that ends the game with a target score instead of a clock:

How it works
When there are less than four minutes left in the game and there's a dead ball, the game clock is turned off and the target score is announced. The target score is the winning team's score plus eight points. The first team to reach the target score wins.

So what if they foul again immediately on that side of the court?

I think time should get added to the shot clock to discourage that, but iirc bob disagrees

Tell me you weren't around for the greatest tournament comeback of all time without telling me you weren't around for the greatest tournament comeback of all time...

I'll bet you (no pun intended) a big issue with the Elam Ending is it completely eliminates point spread betting and probably has a big enough effect on totals (over/under) to eliminate that as well. It would relegate basketball to money line wagering only.

And while nobody will ever admit catering to the betting industry, I would think the sportsbooks' ability to lobby behind closed doors is pretty significant.

Never thought of that, but that's probably a real thing

Betting has always evolved around the changing structure of the game. Reference baseball extra inning rule changes or football OT rule changes.

It's more that it would be changing the fundamental structure of the sport. Imagine being down 1 and a touch foul at half court and a resulting free throw ends the game with 3:30 left left on the clock.

Just add a triple bonus foul level. Bonus = 1 and 1, Double Bonus = 2 shots, Triple Bonus = 2 shots and possession.

I've said it for years as well. The reason they won't do it is because coaches want a chance to come back and they're willing to allow the other team the same chance. They believe without the ability to foul to stop the clock AND make the other team shoot FTs (essentially a 2 for 3 tradeoff at best), they'll be giving all that up.

At the very least, they should designate a non-shooting foul by the team behind in the score in the last 5 minutes as a 3 shot foul. Its unfair to allow a team to foul, only having to give up 2 free throws, then they get to down and launch a 3.

Basketball is pretty much unwatchable and has been for a while.

they should all be like tonight, 8-3 Ags over the last 3:30 of the game.

If it's under ten seconds I'd reset it to ten. The biggest evolution in my take is the uncontested inbound. The offense would start with the ball in the backcourt with no defenders allowed past midcourt and the clock would start when the ball crosses midcourt.

" Give the hooter 4 shots"

Yes, I am all for as many shots at the Hooters as one can get.

There would have been games in both the Buzz and Gillispie era where those final 4 minutes would have taken 75 minutes for either team to hit the target score.

I definitely agree that something needs to change. I've struggled to watch basketball at any level recently due to the constant stopping of the game. The end of any close game is non-stop fouling.
