I have followed TAMU basketball since the early 80's and this is maybe the best all around team since "the Wall". Buzz has done a great job recruiting guys for his system. It is a nightmare for other teams. Purdue even in their presser looked confused over what just went down. Time to move on past the sweet 16, we have the horses to do it this year. Very proud of our guys....

Defensively this team is right there with the best we ever have had.

Offensive rebounding…best ever for this year and last.

Offensively overall, this team still has pretty bad shooting numbers and isn't as nearly as good at scoring points as that 2006-2007 team or the 2015-2016 team.

I have seen enough to feel that this team may be in mix with those other two relatively recent teams that I mentioned but there is still a lot of season left and work left to do.

That 2015-2016 team that was SEC Co-Champ and Sweet Sixteen was really good. I don't think we have seen enough season yet to definitively compare.

I will always argue that the 15-16 team underachieved relative to its talent. That team probably could/should have been undeniably our highest-achieving team ever. I am an unabashed BK hater though.

This. The 15-16 team was the most talented since I've been paying attention (mid-70s). But this team could certainly exceed their accomplishments.

Feel like y'all are thinking of the '17-'18 team.

Maybe the '16 team slightly underachieved but they won our only conference championship since like the '80s, were a 3 seed and did make the Sweet 16. That's doing quite a bit.

The '18 team was pretty loaded and even got out to a hot start and then just completely imploded and ended up as a 7 seed. Then decided to flash that talent one solid time and annihilated North Carolina.

I'm not, but I could definitely construct an argument there too. 15-16 had some great wins but also some head-scratchers. Obviously opinions shouldn't rest on one game, but had we been remotely competitive with OU in the round of 16 perhaps I would feel different….

17-18 had some injuries and the Hogg suspension, correct? I agree it imploded but I guess some of that was out of BK's hands. Whereas I feel like a three seed was actually low relative to the talent in 15-16, and our tourney performance definitely was.

Either way I hope this team exceeds those two, because as referenced, the BK era felt like 8 consecutive years of underachieving.

Also the UNI comeback was great and all, but that game was one hell of a wet fart until the last 1:30.

That team lost one home game, went 11-2 in non-conference, and won the SEC. Granted the SEC was terrible so we ate a couple not great losses, but you're going to lose conference road games.

I can see the argument that if that team is locked in all year they maybe win a couple more games and get a two seed and getting blasted by Oklahoma sucked, but just can't agree that that was a hugely underperforming team compared to some others like the '18 team. Or even the '17 team, I know we lost a lot from '16 but there were some dudes on that roster and we didn't even sniff the tournament.

Understand the sentiment. Though that still was a very good basketball season historically for A&M.

This current team hasn't even started conference play yet. it has a lot of work left to even reach the accomplishment level of that 2015-2016 team, or 2006-2007, much less exceed it.

Right now, I still have some skepticism because of the poor shooting numbers and propensity to turn over the ball a lot being an Achilles heel. Even though there was about a 7-8 minute stretch in the second half of that Purdue game where I thought maybe I was watching the best display of defense by an A&M basketball team that I had ever seen.

This team is very deep. The starters are a nightmare and the backups come in without any loss on the offense or defense. I'm not seeing much of a weakness if we play our game and limit our turnovers.

It wasn't just the Hogg suspension, that's why that season to me stands in a class of its own in underperforming, almost every single rotation player got suspended at least once. If memory serves Starks and Chandler actually both got suspended twice. Hogg, Gilder, Davis, Flagg, Caldwell (who also left the team halfway through the year.)

There were some things out of BK's control, Robert Williams got hurt right at the start of conference play and we lost Duane Wilson for the season halfway through which made us even more dependent on Starks.

But to have that much talent and just have that many issues was ridiculous. You didn't know who was going to be suiting up for us on a given night. And we got absolutely killed a few times, including on our home court.

2015-16 was a solid team. But the talent level is being overrated. House is a legitimate rotation NBA player. And Caruso is a starter on a Finals teams. Outside of that, the rest of the group is playing in European 2nd divisions or below. Tyler Davis is playing in the Puerto Rican League. Hogg is playing in the 2nd division in Japan. Japanese basketball is improving but, this is still a pretty low standard. Jalen Jones is a deep bench guy for 1st division European club.

Meanwhile I present the 2009-10 Aggies. With our undisputed best basketball player ever in Khris Middleton: A 3x NBA all-star, 2nd best player on an NBA championship team, and deserved max contract guy. A top 3 Aggie guard all time (I put Acie Law IV and Wade in this group) in Donald Sloan, and a great big man who made real money in Europe in Bryan Davis.

I'd argue that how good they ended up being in the pros isn't all that relevant. Khris Middleton the 2010 college player wasn't Khris Middleton the all-NBA player. He was a 17 year old freshman shooting 32% from 3 that couldn't do much else. Like the 2016 team had at least three players better than the freshman Middleton was.

And that's the season we lost Roland halfway through it.

That team might have slightly underperformed also, but they were also pretty good! A six seed, lost in overtime in the tournament, but one of only a handful of our teams that have ever ended the season ranked.

We annihilated UNC only to see Michigan get hotter than the sun's core the next round.
