Because that's what media do when two teams with limited national appeal are playing. They glom on to whatever storyline they can create without putting in much work. I get it, though. How many Japanese 3 point specialists have we seen play the Big Dance over the years? If they had been winning and in control then you would have also heard nonstop commentary on the only Power 5 team to never win a Tournament game finally getting it done.
But that didn't happen, did it?
