I've always found these sorts of comments from police to be BS. Yes I've been around people smoking and know that it is a pretty strong odor. But as any sort of evidence it is a worthless comment just meant as prejudicial and cya justification for the officers.

"As the Durango drove past the officers one of the officers "detected the strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle," according to the report. About 45 minutes later the same Durango was pulled over by A&M police in the same general area."

and there's no way to debunk what they're saying after the fact.

Ryan McCollum got arrested after a cop chased him on his bike. Maybe they get a gold star if they catch a car on their bike.

This sounds like so much effort for not a lot of reason.
100% wanting to bust a drunk driving student.

The more over-funded and over-staffed a police force is the more you have stuff like this go down.

Police capture revenue. And that by itself is why speed traps exist…

I'm chuckling at all the stereotypes being thrown around about the cops. We could just as easily throw out some stereotypes about college basketball/football athletes that would support the other side.

Correct me if I am wrong, but CSPD has/ had an incentive program for a new work Harley Davidson annually if you met community outreach quotas (Tickets written)

It's all about the money.

Not all cops. Just CSPD. Enemy of the people. Haters of college students. General asswhips.

From Radford's lawyer.
I'm not sure that "unsafe start from stop" even counts as a traffic infraction. That violation was tossed years ago by the courts.

Northgate is CSPD's money maker.

Everything else, protecting, serving, these are things they don't do. What they do is hassle college kids and get money out of their parents.

I respect cops for all they put up with but I've lived in many cities and never found a less cool bunch than CSPD. Also I've got eight hundred club stickers on my car to prove it.

Northgate is a big money maker for CS, but more from tax revenue than moving violations. CS wants a safe environment to keep the tax revenue coming in.

You're fooling yourself if you don't think they have very legit public safety concerns relative to traffic offenses in the area. The city has spent a lot of money trying to reduce the number of accidents in the area. There have been a number of fatalities and serious injuries there.

Of all the things to complain about enforcement on, enforcing traffic laws in northgate at night is one that is more justifiable and benefits the public welfare.

So Boot's arrest leads him to miss perhaps one game. Meanwhile Marble's picture is on the carton of milk I bought this week.
Makes sense.
And texas tech's best player is facing a sexual assault (of a minor) civil suit from an event that happened on a basketball trip, but Tech is saying that's for the courts to handle not the school so he is OK to play ball.

That was a civil lawsuit based on alleged events in the Bahamas where the Plaintiffs didn't even file criminal charges there. I'm not going to comment on the allegations, but it was tech's Title 9 office that cleared the way for him to play, not the athletic department. For virtually all Title 9 offices on campuses in the US, actually not having done something is never a defense (i.e. every allegation by a woman is the absolute truth), so I would take their action in this case with FAR more than a grain of salt. In other words, I'm pretty sure they think the lawsuit is garbage.

Not trying to defend tech, but the situations LIKELY aren't comparable.

It's because the accuser is not a Tech student, therefor it's strictly a legal matter.

One news station reported it was because the cops smelled marijuana coming from his car at 2:47am and tried to stop him and he drove off. He was later stopped by another officer and told him he wasn't driving the car.
What's the real story? Miss a stop sign or marijuana?

The marijuana line is likely completely fabricated to strengthen their case after the fact.

After the interaction, one of the bike officers "scoured social media for the defendant," the report said. He found that Radford was a basketball player at A&M and matched up a logo that was on the front plate of his car with that marking Radford's foundation, The Rece Way Foundation. Police reviewed Northgate security footage and found that Radford had been at Northgate that night and an individual wearing the same clothing as Radford allegedly was seen on video driving the Durango, according to the report.
Nice detective work by Officer Blart, here. I wonder if Interpol has any openings, we need to get this guy on the biggest cases immediately.
