First, congratulations on the making the NIT Championship. Second, Texas A&M clearly should have made the NCAA Tournament (even before this NIT run).

So this is strange for me. I have my undergraduate degree from Xavier and graduate degree from Texas A&M. I know that I cannot be the only one, but it must be a small set. During the fall, we are a SEC family marooned in the Midwest fully immersed in Aggie & SEC football. During the winter, I obsess over Xavier basketball. I did not have Musketeers vs. Aggies for the NIT Championship on my bingo card.

From what I have observed, Texas A&M has better size & athleticism and should be favored. That being said, Xavier seems like a different team since the dismissal of Travis Steele as head coach and Jonas Hayes taking over as interim head coach two weeks ago. Of course, in the interim, Sean Miller returned to Xavier as head coach. It has been a turbulent, strange, and exciting couple of weeks.

Definitely an interesting situation for Xavier. They have real we're-finally-free-because-the-coach-got-fired energy that you see in bowl games sometimes.

We definitely don't have better size. We mostly play 4 guards under 6'5 and one 6'8 guy that probably isn't 6'8. Every game we are the smaller team, unless we are playing a small conference team like Alcorn St from the SWAC.

thanks for sharing, and especially the link to fan site. Have to admit, first time I've heard about our size as far as a height advantage! Maybe it's an Einsteinian Relativity thing- the FASTER you go, the TALLER you appear!

Well, when you were tearing through the SEC tournament, you definitely looked more athletic than Xavier. Maybe all the dunking made you look taller.

Xavier does have a 6'11" guy, which helps.

Size advantage? Hardly. Based on what I watched from the game against St. Bonny yesterday, those Nunge and Freemantle guys will have huge advantages.

This is the one thing that concerns me a bit. We totally took Wake and Wash St out of their games by taking away their go-to guys. Even with role players stepping up a bit for each early on, they couldn't sustain that over the course of the game. Facing such a balanced team in Xavier, I don't know that there will be a similar focal point we can build our defensive gameplan around.

WSU was bigger and way more athletic in the post than Xavier and we wrecked shop inside vs them. Freemantle is more skilled offensively but didnt look very physical to me and we give guys like that problems.

Don't know about evil stuff, but Jesuit brothers and priests can be rough. I got whacked a few times while at Mater Dei with a pointer stick in my four years there. Rough guys.

I haven't watched Xavier this year so I can't compare but I see our strength as speed, effort, depth and teamwork especially on defense. We go very deep so our guys can give intense effort and since we play small, we can often outhustle bigger teams.

The last 2 months this Aggie team has gained confidence which has allowed them to play even faster. That speed allowed us to completely overwhelm Oregon, Wake Forest and Washington St. for big chunks of time.

Speed kills. Unless your tall guys are quicker than average, size won't matter. That's what she told me anyway. Quick and size doesn't matter.

Indeed a small set of folks with degrees from both schools. I have my one degree from A&M but have a crazy BIL who played for X back in 2019 (@hankymckspanky). The bet is he wears maroon socks in his next G League game if the Ags take the W tomorrow night...

Also, from a quick google search, Elon's son's name is Xavier.... Xavier Musk

We're not tall, but I don't usually look at our team next to the opponent and feel like we're at a physical advantage. We have some guys who make their own space.

Xavier has had a good deal of success with the SEC over the years. Back when Xavier was in the Atlantic 10, the home-and-home series with SEC teams were key to the NCAA Tournament resumes.
