I was gonna start a thread, but I'll post it here instead.
Is Calipari a good coach or a good recruiter?
I was reading the
Malik Monk article on ESPN and that got me thinking about how he didn't really have to work hard because he's such a talented player. And then I thought, isn't that the role of a college basketball coach? I can see why BCG didn't really work there and how he didn't realize that before he accepted the job.
I don't think there's only way to have a basketball program make the NCAAT every year, but I know that one and dones dont necessarily do that well in the tournament due to the lack of experience.
There's some talented players that have come through Kentucky, but does he leave enough of an imprint to say that he's the reason why Devin Booker, Malik, Unibrow are so good? Because of the article, I believe these guys were gonna be good anyway.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that at some point Kentucky is going to get rid of Calipari and get someone that can recruit like him and take the team to Final Fours on a consistent basis. I can certainly see them getting restless after this year's early exit; they have such lofty expectations.
