He makes 16% of what BK makes per year and has his team in the Elite 8.

He also coached at A&M for 6 years. It would be great to have a coach to believe in again.

He's had a great season but a pretty average career. This is his first NCAA tournament in 14 years as a HC.

You don't go after coaches who make one big run.

You go after coaches who consistently put their teams in position to get lucky and make a run.

You realize that neither of these strategies apply to BK right?

Yes. I'm not comparing it to A&M's bass ackwards hiring decisions at the time. I'm just saying in general, don't chase the hot commodity in cbb, chase consistency over time.

2 sweet 16's in 7 years mixed with massive frustration and anguish the other 5 is not as nice as 4 ncaa tourneys in 4 years without a S16 birth.

I love March madness but I also want a team that will show up and fight year in and year out. I choose to believe if you put yourself in position most years, that's how you get lucky/good and can make a deep run.

BK struck silver twice but has otherwise sucked. Which makes it all the more maddening.

If this is the case, then how much will it cost us to bring along Sister Jean with him? She gets just as much attention.

The NC win means he'll be here another 10-years.....

I wish more people thought like this. All too often coaches will win one or two games in the tournament at a small school and then get hired to a much larger school without considering their career as a whole. It is why we are in the postition we are in, and we are not alone in that.
Schools tend to see someone get hot for a weekend or two (when considering conference tournaments) and mistake that as good coaching or sustained success. Sometimes it works out when you grab those hot commodity coaches, but typically it is the ones who have had sustained success that acheive the most, ala Chris Beard. He bounced around a ton very quickly, but he had success at every stop almost immediately and learned under one of the game's best before that. Compare that to someone like BK, who bounced around and was as average as average gets, but got hired after 2 good years out of 5 at a school that had success long before he arrived. This is not to turn this thread into a BK thread, just a comparison of what happens when you hire based on 1 year rather than a whole body of work. I also realize the jury is still out on Tech/Chris Beard as it pertains to sustained success.

Ultimate reason why you don't have fans hiring and firing coaches...

2 Sweet 16s is more like striking aluminum twice, but yeah the UNC game was a blast.

BK's gameplan for Meatchicken was as bad a gameplan as the adjustment at the 11 min first half mark against UNC was good.

Come to think of it, BK is more like hitting GOLD (UNC, UNI) and then having a deluge of sewage (Land Thieves, Mich) wash it all away. B.A.S. HOF stuff.
