I may be misremembering (need to look up the original thread) but I'm pretty positive there were zero details given about the latest contract extension, other than the length. Nothing in regards to salary or buyout.

Many people questioned the timing of the extension, prior to a huge measuring stick game and prior to playing in the NCAA tournament. Why not wait until we see what he's made of on the big stage? Will he lose by double digits to an 11-seed or will he make the Sweet 16?

People pointed to the decisions of WMW and maybe a few others as a reason it needed to be done at that time.

No one was saying anything about the terms because no one knew. Details weren't released for 7 or 8 months.

Nevermind, I think I read the first post wrong. I thought Hayden was saying that people were saying this contract was just for recruiting instead of the 2014 extension.

I definitely agreed with the "why now" camp.

The $$$ figures weren't mentioned this go round either -- it was just that there was an expected salary increase.

Basically in 2014 it was -- an extension doesn't matter if we're still paying him $1m a year, you have to extend to prevent negative recruiting.

Then in 2016 it was -- an extension and a pay increase doesn't matter if there isn't a significant buyout, you have to extend to prevent negative recruiting.


Then the contract was finally posted and whoops, it had a significant pay increase and a significant buyout. Even then you have/had some posters (including a certain staff member if I remember correclty) that actually hypothesize that the contract is just for show and there is actually a "gentleman's agreement" that we don't know about that will make what we owe him significantly less.

Delusion abounds.
