Will the new assistant to be named shortly be considered the top assistant (i.e. Associate HC)? If so, I hope BK hits another home run like he did with Stansbury. Need another good bench coach who can recruit well.
From what I've read on different threads
-Logan said Mitch Cole was hoping to be promoted to the 3rd asst position, however Maligi was hired for that position
-Robert Kirby interviewed for a position on this staff. He was the Assistant Head Coach at Memphis and is now the Associate Head Coach at LSU. I think it's safe to assume he was interviewing with A&M for the top asst position
So the likely breakdown is this:
#1 Assistant Position - vacated by Stansbury, this position is yet to be filled. But I don't think it necessarily comes with an elevated title like Assistant Heach Coach or Associate Head Coach, because Stansbury was promoted to that position this past offseason. State institutions often keep titles like this in their back pocket as a means of providing a raise in the future. I'm guessing the better the hire, the more likely they get the Associate Head Coach title right away.
#2 Assistant Position - the position vacated by Keller. No confirmation has been given that Amir has been promoted to this spot, or if there is even a clear deliniation between #2 and #3 within the A&M program, other than differences in salaries.
#3 Assistant Position - I'm guessing that Amir filled this spot last year, but has been "promoted" to the #2 position, and Maligi is now #3.
Of course, most/all of this is speculation and who Kennedy can hire as the last assistant may determine the final pecking order.
