Menzl said Adams thought he was waving him off after a call went against the Phoenix.

"I talk with my hands," Menzl said. "I was trying to describe that we had two guys fighting for the ball, and he took it as I waved him off, like saying that's a horrible call.

"At first he gave me a warning. Then two seconds later said, 'I want this guy removed and I won't start the game until he gets removed.'"

Menzl had to hand over his headset to an Oakland play-by-play announcer and went into the tunnel, where he explained the situation to UWGB athletic director Mary Ellen Gillespie and Horizon League spokesman Bill Potter.

Potter told Menzl to go back and that they'd deal with it.

"I maybe missed actual game action, a couple minutes," Menzl said.

Wasn't Adams the ref who called the end-of-game foul in the Ole Miss / South Carolina game last year in the SEC tourney?

The one where he overruled the other ref on a possession call and gave it to Vandy was the worst. Closest ref called out of bounds on Vandy and our ball (which was the right call from what I could tell), then Adams overruled him, and then the first ref gave an even more emphatic call of our ball, indicating to Adams that he had a good look at it and knew the right call, and Adams still overruled him.

I guess it's possible that Adams got that call right, but you just never see where the ref who is in the best position to make the call emphatically states he saw it one way but still gets overruled. Of course, you never see a ref butting into a team huddle trying to instigate a fight either, like he did when he teed BK up during the UK game.

I know from some of our basketball folks that they hear from other refs that they don't like working with the guy. He's the quintessential ref on a power trip making the game about him.

slight tangent, but do the refs hate Jalen?
i LOVE the kid, so this isnt meant as a complaint, but he sort of demonstratively sighs after every time he is called for a foul on D or after every non- call when on O. i keep expecting a hot head ref to T him up but it hasnt happened so far.

You may be right. Like WWE side show villains. Maybe Pat Adams wants a microphone too. It is brutal to watch these attention hounds call a game.

Wasn't aware enough to realize he was the ref I was yelling at Saturday. He was trying to make game about him - not sure if telecast captured it but obvious live. Ridiculous theatrics.

Kinda glad others don't like Jalens demonstrative hand waving in frustration. He does it on any possession he doesn't score AND get a foul call

I didn't get to watch the Kentucky game but was in attendance at Vandy game on Saturday. I had no idea this was the guy that T'd up BK but it doesn't surprise me one bit.

You could absolutely tell when this as*hat tried to take over the game on Saturday. I was behind the Vandy bench screaming at him to remove himself from the action...I was done with him trying to make himself the center of attention. Between him and the Vandy coach, there were plenty of as*hats to go around.

I saw him staring down the fans behind the UK bench after the technical call. Pretty ridiculous.

Was Nance working the side of the court opposite the benches? That ref acknowledged a yelling fan in a courtside seat during the Vanderbilt game. I thought that was a little odd, but he was smiling, so I'm just guessing the interaction involved something along the lines of "that's not his call".

I can almost guarantee that if Pat Adams was reffing A&M games while I was a student, I would have been ejected on numerous occasions.
