For a team that has been flat out bad on the court for 3 years, how did we all of a sudden capture this recruiting momentum? It is certainly exciting, but I'm curious as to yalls opinion on where it came from.
How did we create this momentum?

Hard work. Making connections. Some lucky breaks. But hard, hard work. This staff should get a standing ovation.
Yea I hear Avery has been massive. Kids are drawn to this young man. Still this staff had to close.
Avery is the reason for the first wave. Staff closed, agreed.
Once you got that first wave in, it's a lot easier to go talk to other studs who know those guys and make them truly believe it's going to be a special team. When they see 2 or 3 other dudes who they've grown up competing against and know are badasses already on board, the pitch is easier to believe. Strength in numbers, not plucking one kid here and one kid there.

Played on Avery's team at lifetime earlier this year in Plano. Guy is short, but is quick with great control on the drive. Fairly decent shot. Good teammate in pickup games. Won 6 straight games, called it a day. Off the court, really good at checking iPhone as well.
Nice to see us getting some great talent. Best since Sloan, Davis and Roland. All from Dallas too. Recruiting really picked up after getting Avery Jr on board. Credit the entire coaching staff for this class, and esp whoever recruits Dallas.
i was critical of the AJ offer considering he has no other D1 offers. i am glad to be really wrong on AJ.

I was talking with someone this morning and he gave a great analogy of what has started to happen:
Texas always had some good players on their roster, but the influx of talent never really took off UNTIL they signed TJ Ford out of WIllowridge. Once TJ committed, the flood gates opened and everyone in the state had their heads turned towards Austin.
Alex Robinson and Avery Johnson Jr. were the cracks in the flood gate, but Tyler Davis busted it wide open. Now we are seeing a lot of the top tier guys looking at College Station as a place to do a number of things: 1) play with their friends during their college career, 2) play with the top tier talent in the state, and 3) make a name for themselves by improving the program and getting it back to the NCAA tournament and hopefully further in the tournament anyone has even been.

Has Rick Stansbury had anything to do with this? Most of this occurred after he was on staff - correct?
Thomas would push us into top 3. Newman might push us to 1.

I think Rick has had some to do with all of this, but don't under estimate Billy Kennedy and Kyle Keller. They have been here for the long haul and they started building these relationships four years ago. Amir has also had a hand in what is happening as well. It is a complete team effort, which is what you need to land the top tier guys. You can't have a weak link.

I was talking with a buddy of mine the other day about bball recruiting and we mentioned how if a top recruit wanted to be a legend and be THE guy, then A&M was the perfect landing spot. I'm glad to see some recruits are taking notice that they can be the reason the program makes a comeback.
I think the tide is turning some in regards to program stature. All you need is to open the doors and good players want to play together regardless of program status.
