Offensive tendencies

The Hogs want to play as fast as they can and score above the rim or from behind the arc. Their primary offense is scoring in transition when given the opportunity. They like to shoot a lot of threes on the break and they are a good rebounding team, which makes their style effective.

When Mike Anderson's team does actually get into a half court offense, they like to run a motion where the bigs set a number of ball screens and roll to the basket or pop to the perimeter. In this motion action, they also set back screens, down screens, and cut back door whenever they feel they have a chance to score. Think of an old Bob Knight offensive set, but speed up the pace 100 times and you have Mike Anderson's offense.

The Razorbacks want to have at least 70 possessions in a game. They want to push the tempo, get open looks at the basket and grab offensive rebounds to add to their shot total.

Defensive tendencies

The Razorbacks will play man-to-man 50% of the time and a 1-1-3 zone the other half of the game. When in their man defense, watch for them to pressure the ball full court, deny the passes to the wings and gamble in the passing lanes - trying to get steals on the perimeter for easy baskets in transition. When defending a ball screen, they will often trap the ball handler and go into a scramble defense, where everyone rotates to the closest player to the ball out of the trap. This team loves to force turnovers and plays on emotion. They aren't afraid to trap in the back court and press the entire game. The more shots they get up on offense (whether they make or miss), the more intense they get at the defensive end of the court.

The zone defense is used primarily when they have a smaller line up on the court. It hides the fact that they don't have a pure 'rim protector' and they are able to play at a faster pace on both ends of the floor. They will trap the ball when it goes to the corner or any time is touches the paint. Most teams are worse rebounders out of a zone defense, but this team attacks the glass with all five players because they want to get it and go.

Attack the zone - Don't settle for a jumpshot, get into the paint and make plays
Match their energy - Don't shy away from the pressure, attack it
Rebounding - Go get the ball, can't get killed on the boards
Tempo - Don't get out of control because of pressure and intensity, play your game
